Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive and commercially-minded Lawyer with approximately 2 years PQE to join our small and dynamic legal team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with business stakeholders across the organisation, providing timely and commercial legal advice and supporting key commercial initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a solid grounding in general commercial law, with demonstrable experience in data privacy and IT contracts, and a strong client focus with proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships through excellent communications and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including client engagements, supplier agreements, service contracts, NDAs, and licensing agreements.
- Monitor and maintain legal contracts database.
- Provide legal support on IT-related contracts, including SaaS, cloud services, software licensing, and technology procurement.
- Advise on data protection and privacy matters, ensuring compliance with GDPR and other applicable regulations.
- Support internal teams on legal risk management, contract lifecycle processes, and regulatory compliance.
- Assist with the development and implementation of legal policies, templates, and training programs.
- Liaise with external counsel where necessary on specialist matters.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments relevant to the business and provide timely updates and guidance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified lawyer (solicitor, barrister or CILEX) in England & Wales or equivalent jurisdiction, with around 2 years PQE.
- Strong experience in general commercial law, ideally gained in-house or at a reputable law firm.
- Specific experience in data privacy (GDPR, UK Data Protection Act) and IT contracts is highly desirable.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience working in a tech-driven or regulated industry.
- Familiarity with international data transfer mechanisms and privacy frameworks.
- Interest in legal operations and process improvement.
Reward & Benefits
- A 35-hour working week with flexibility around the core hours of 10am-4pm
- Agile working policy giving you the option to work from home for up to 3 days per week.
- 25 days annual leave. After 5 years\\\’ service, the entitlement will be increased by 1 day.
- In addition, employees are entitled to buy or sell up to 5 days holiday a year
- Contributory pension scheme (The firm will contribute 5% of salary on a matched basis with employee from their date of joining)
- Life assurance cover of 4 x annual salary,
- Working from home allowance of £25 a month.
- Eligibility for the firm\\\’s Profit-Sharing Plan that runs from October to September each year. The scheme enables staff to share in the profits of the firm. Payment is usually c£1,000. Paid in December.
- New client referral scheme. Members of staff introducing a new client to the firm, have the potential to receive a referral payment of up to 10% of the first year\\\’s total fees.
- Eligibility for the discretionary bonus scheme. This is based on both individual performance and firm performance.
