The role

Our National Tax team is recruiting for an Assistant Manager with either a corporate tax, personal tax or mixed tax background.

Our National Tax team has a key role in ensuring clients always receive high quality services.

The team provide policy, technical and risk management support to those in the fee-earning tax teams at Saffery.

Responsibilities

  • Keeping up-to-date with tax developments and helping the team to communicate them.
  • Helping the team share the impact of relevant tax changes with clients and potential clients, such as through contributing to website articles.
  • Assisting with sharing information and best practice across teams on tax matters.
  • Assisting colleagues resolve technical and risk related tax queries.
  • Assisting with responses to tax-related consultations.
  • Assisting with our response to the Budget and co-ordinating other key fiscal announcements.
  • Ensuring our internal tax knowledgebase is complete and up to date, especially following tax changes.
  • Assisting with the file review process for tax in order to manage risk across the firm, including contributing to reviewing and improving the current process and identifying and implementing improvements based on results.
  • Assisting with reviewing/writing tax policies and procedures, including liaising with various teams across the firm to gather information as required for this.
  • Helping run our tax technical training programmes.
  • Helping with other National Tax initiatives, as needed.
  • Assisting with compliance process improvements across all taxes, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency and strengthen process controls.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Self-motivated And Able To Produce High Quality Work Without Close Supervision. They Will Also Require The Following

  • Tax technical background (ACA or ATT and CTA preferably), with the ability to pick up and understand issues from across a range of taxes quickly.
  • Experience working in a professional services firm.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to express complex issues simply and to write for a variety of audiences, both internal and external.
  • Passion for sharing knowledge and improving the processes and technologies that help people to do so.
  • Strong organisational skills and a desire to take ownership of their work.
  • Strong networking skills and the ability to build relationships both virtually and in person.
  • Ability to work with those at all grades across the firm.

  • A 35-hour working week with a hybrid working policy with the flexibility to work from home for up to three days per week (our core hours are 10-4).

  • Eligibility for the firm’s Profit-Sharing Plan. Paid in December.
