We’re looking for an experienced Credit Controller to take ownership of a portfolio of around 100 active, high-value customer accounts (multi-site, regional/national). This is a relationship-led, key accounts credit control role where you’ll drive consistent cash collection while protecting key account relationships, working closely with our Sales and operational teams to resolve queries and keep accounts on track. You’ll manage a ledger of approximately £3m, and you’ll be trusted to spot risk early, influence internally, and prevent debt from escalating.
Responsibilities
- Own a key account ledger, driving timely payment and maintaining strong account relationships.
- Monitor ledger performance (DSO, aged debt, dispute volumes) and take proactive action.
- Manage and resolve billing queries/disputes, working across internal teams to remove blockers to payment.
- Process and allocate payments (including card and cheque) accurately.
- Maintain clear, accurate notes and records in CRM/systems.
- Flag risks early and agree practical next steps with internal stakeholders and customers.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in credit control, ideally with high-value and/or multi-site accounts.
- Confident communicator who can influence and handle payment conversations professionally.
- Strong problem-solving skills - comfortable investigating root causes, not just chasing debt.
- Organised and resilient: you can prioritise, stay on top of activity, and follow through.
- Strong attention to detail and confident with systems/Excel (or similar).
Benefits
- Bonus structure up to £6.5k per year, paid quarterly.
- 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays.
- 5% Contributory Pension scheme.
- Family Life assurance of 3 times life cover salary.
- Private healthcare scheme from day 1.
- Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
- Corporate discount scheme focussed on your wellbeing, including discounted Virgin Active Gym membership.
- Discount and cashback at many retailers.
- Cycle to work scheme.
- Employee Assistance program with 24/7 confidential helpline support for employees.
- Enhanced occupational sick pay scheme for employees with illness and/or conditions requiring treatment.
- Employee recognition program.
- Employee referral scheme.
- We provide support and access to a range of internal and external courses to help and progress your career with us.
