A well-established construction business delivering residential-led enabling and civil engineering packages is seeking a Technical Manager to provide senior technical leadership and environmental oversight across projects in the southern half of the UK. Works typically include bulk earthworks, remediation, demolition, and asbestos-related activities. This is a regional role supporting operational teams across multiple live sites, ensuring environmental compliance, robust controls, and consistent reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior technical leadership and assurance for environmental and sustainability compliance across enabling and civils projects.
- Oversee compliance with planning conditions, environmental permits, consents, and regulatory requirements, intervening where elevated risk or non-compliance is identified.
- Set, review, and approve environmental management strategies, monitoring regimes, and site-based control measures aligned to company standards and regulatory expectations.
- Lead the preparation and review of environmental reports, monitoring outputs, and performance summaries, including periodic reporting where required.
- Embed environmental best practice into construction methodologies, including temporary works, materials management, waste control, and remediation activities.
- Act as the senior technical point of contact for regulators, clients, consultants, and stakeholders, leading engagement on complex or high-risk matters.
- Provide technical input into method statements, risk assessments, and sequencing to identify and mitigate environmental risks early.
- Support continuous improvement of environmental systems, procedures, and training aligned with ISO 14001 and wider business objectives.
- Mentor and support site/project teams, promoting a culture of compliant delivery and continual improvement.
- Contribute to tender reviews, pre-construction planning, and project start-up by identifying constraints, opportunities, and risk-reduction measures.
Candidate Profile
- Strong technical background within enabling works / civils (ideally residential-led or major projects).
- Proven experience managing environmental compliance across complex construction activities (earthworks, remediation, demolition).
- Confident advising delivery teams and engaging with regulators and external stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of planning conditions, permits/consents, and site-based environmental controls.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems aligned to ISO 14001.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the region.
Package
£70,000 to £75,000 base salary plus package. Regional senior role with autonomy and influence across multiple projects.
