We are recruiting a Compliance Manager for an established multi-site business operating across the North West. This is a broad and autonomous compliance position reporting directly to the Managing Director. The successful person will take ownership of a range of operational compliance activities across several sites, working with internal teams, external auditors, major clients, equipment suppliers and other third parties. You can be based from any of the company’s seven North West locations, including sites in the Manchester and Blackburn areas. There is no home working. Your week will involve a combination of working from one of the company’s sites in the North West, and travelling between locations as required.

The role involves helping ensure that the business maintains the standards, systems and processes required by its clients, auditors and external partners. The position covers a varied compliance remit and will require somebody who is comfortable moving between detailed audit work, supplier relationships, operational issues and senior-level conversations.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting BSI audits and maintaining ongoing audit readiness
  • Supporting PAS audits and associated compliance requirements
  • Coordinating and closing actions arising from internal and external audits
  • Maintaining compliance records, systems and documentation
  • Acting as a key point of contact for equipment suppliers
  • Dealing with day-to-day supplier and compliance queries
  • Liaising with external auditors and other third parties
  • Supporting compliance requirements associated with major clients
  • Identifying gaps in processes, systems or standards
  • Implementing and following through corrective actions
  • Working closely with the Managing Director on compliance matters
  • Building relationships with senior leadership and operational management
  • Working directly with teams on the shop floor
  • Supporting the existing Health & Safety Advisor where areas of responsibility overlap
  • Travelling between sites across the North West

You will have the autonomy to resolve day-to-day compliance issues and drive actions through to completion. Major commercial decisions will remain with the Managing Director, but you will be expected to take ownership of your area rather than wait for constant direction.

The person we are looking for should have broad compliance experience gained within an operational environment. You might currently be a Compliance Manager, Quality & Compliance Manager, Standards Manager, Audit & Compliance Manager or working in a similar role. Experience within automotive, manufacturing, engineering, repair, logistics or another regulated operational environment would be particularly relevant.

You should have:

  • Strong practical compliance experience
  • Experience supporting or managing external audits
  • Knowledge of BSI standards and/or PAS requirements
  • Experience working within an operational environment
  • Strong auditing and corrective-action experience
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • The confidence to deal with senior management, external suppliers and auditors
  • Strong organisational and documentation skills
  • The ability to manage several different compliance priorities simultaneously
  • A practical approach to identifying and resolving problems
  • The confidence to challenge where necessary and follow actions through
  • A full UK driving licence

You do not need to be a Health & Safety specialist. The business already has a dedicated Health & Safety Advisor.

Package includes:

  • Salary up to £55,000
  • Company car or £5,000 car allowance
  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Permanent position
  • High level of autonomy
  • Direct reporting line to the Managing Director
  • Choice of base across seven North West locations
  • There is no home working associated with this position.

If you have a strong background in operational compliance, auditing and standards and want a role where you can take genuine ownership across a multi-site business, please apply for further information.
