An established construction consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Associate Principal Designer to join its Leeds city centre team. This is a senior appointment offering responsibility for managing Principal Designer commissions, supporting clients and project teams, and helping develop the consultancy’s wider health and safety and design-risk offering.

The successful candidate will have strong experience delivering Principal Designer services under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. Experience acting as Principal Designer under the Building Regulations would be highly advantageous.

The role:

  • Acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015
  • Advising clients, designers and contractors on their duties
  • Leading design-risk management from pre-construction through delivery
  • Reviewing design information and identifying foreseeable risks
  • Coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors and wider project teams
  • Preparing and reviewing pre-construction information
  • Supporting the development of construction phase plans and health and safety files
  • Attending design-team, client and project meetings
  • Monitoring compliance and maintaining clear project records
  • Managing a portfolio of commissions across multiple sectors
  • Supporting and mentoring less experienced members of the team
  • Assisting with client development, fee proposals and new instructions
  • Supporting Building Regulations Principal Designer services where relevant

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Substantial experience delivering Principal Designer or CDM consultancy services
  • Strong knowledge of CDM 2015
  • Experience working within a construction consultancy, design practice or similar environment
  • Confidence advising clients and senior project stakeholders
  • The ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A relevant construction, design, health and safety or building-related qualification
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Experience under the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations Principal Designer regime would be advantageous
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to support fee proposals and client relationships

This is an opportunity to join a well-established consultancy in a senior position with genuine influence over service delivery, client relationships and the development of the team. The role is based in Leeds city centre, and regular office attendance will be required. Some flexibility may be available for the right person, but applicants must be within a realistic commuting distance of Leeds.
