We are recruiting a highly proactive, experienced Health & Safety Manager for a small, hands-on construction business. This is a role for someone who takes full ownership, drives improvements, and ensures standards are consistently high. This is not a traditional 9-to-5 position. The right candidate will be self-driven, solutions focused, and capable of leading Health and Safety initiatives across multiple sites. Role Overview
- Full ownership of the internal Health and Safety function, including management systems, safe systems of work, and risk assessments.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and reviews of RAMS to ensure compliance and best practice.
- Review, create, and continually improve risk assessments and standard operating procedures.
- Provide practical and strategic Health and Safety advice to senior management and site teams.
- Shape and influence the overall safety culture across the business, ensuring Health and Safety is integrated into all operations.
- Collaborate with external consultants where necessary, while retaining overall internal control of safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain effective management systems and safe systems of work.
- Lead audits, inspections, and compliance checks across multiple sites.
- Monitor, report, and advise on Health and Safety performance metrics.
- Develop and deliver site-specific Health and Safety training as required.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and industry best practice.
- Act as the primary point of contact for Health and Safety queries, issues, and investigations.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience managing Health and Safety in a construction or similar hands-on environment.
- Strong knowledge of management systems, risk assessment methodology, and safe systems of work.
- Ability to work independently and take full ownership of the role.
- Proactive mindset with the confidence to challenge and influence colleagues at all levels.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of engaging with both site teams and senior management.
- Based within reasonable travel distance of the Midlands and Hertfordshire.
Salary & Package
Circa 60,000 + package depending on experience and capability. Opportunity to make a tangible impact and lead change across the business.
