Location: Carlisle, with travel across Cumbria and flexible working available
Salary: £28,405–£33,110, dependent on experience
Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week)
Contract: Permanent
Closing date: 9am on Monday 19 October 2026
At Safety Net, we believe everyone deserves a safe and supportive space to recover and thrive after experiencing rape, exploitation, sexual or domestic abuse.
We’re looking for an experienced, compassionate and Trauma-Informed Practitioner to join our dedicated team and provide practical and emotional support to adults, children and young people affected by trauma.
This is an important role within our organisation, supporting people to understand and manage the impact of trauma, develop practical coping strategies and work towards greater safety, stability and wellbeing.
If you’re passionate about trauma-informed practice and want to use your skills to make a real difference to people across Cumbria, we’d love to hear from you.
About the role
As a Trauma-Informed Practitioner, you’ll manage your own caseload of 4 clients a day within our 12-week support framework. You’ll provide trauma-informed support, advocacy, risk assessment and safety planning, while working collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure clients receive coordinated, wraparound support.
You’ll also contribute to preventative work in schools across Cumbria, including face-to-face pupil sessions, teacher training and peer group support where required.
This is a varied role where you’ll have the opportunity to work directly with clients, build positive relationships with partner agencies and contribute to improving awareness and understanding of trauma across our communities. The role is based across Cumbria, with weekly travel to our Whitehaven office, usually one day per week, as well as travel to schools and other community buildings as required.
Why join Safety Net?
We know that supporting our team is just as important as supporting the people who use our services. We offer:
- £28,405–£33,110 salary, dependent on experience
- 30 days annual leave, plus bank holidays
- Flexible working arrangements, including home and office working
- Regular clinical supervision and case management
- Ongoing CPD and professional development opportunities
- Company sick pay, maternity support and carers leave
- Mileage allowance for work-related travel
- A supportive, trauma-informed working environment
We’re looking for someone with:
- A relevant professional qualification, such as Social Work, Healthcare, Therapy or equivalent vocational experience
- At least 12 months’ post-qualification experience in a relevant setting
- Experience managing your own caseload and supporting vulnerable people
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, domestic and sexual abuse, safeguarding, risk assessment and support planning
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a non-judgmental and empathetic approach
- The confidence to work independently and as part of a team
- A commitment to equality, diversity, confidentiality and Safety Net’s values
- The ability to travel across Cumbria and work flexibly, including occasional evenings
- A full, clean driving licence and access to your own car
Experience or qualifications in IDVA/ISVA work, multi-agency settings, training or trauma-informed practice would also be welcomed.
