WHY NOW?

Cybersecurity requirements for connected consumer products are developing rapidly across the UK and EU. SafeShark is growing its testing capability and this role offers the opportunity to build specialist experience in an expanding area of product cybersecurity and compliance. You will work with real consumer devices and experienced engineers while developing knowledge of legislation and standards including UK PSTI, the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), RED, EN 18031 and EN 303 645.

THE ROLE

This is a junior engineering role for someone at the start of their technical career. It would suit a graduate in Computer Science, Electronics, Cybersecurity, Telecommunications or a related discipline, or someone with equivalent relevant technical knowledge or experience.

You will support and undertake cybersecurity conformance testing of IoT and connected consumer products using SafeShark Test Suites, manual test procedures and automated testing software. You will work in accordance with defined procedures, with training, guidance and support from the Lead Engineer and other experienced members of the team.

Previous professional cybersecurity experience is not essential. Relevant study, technical projects, placements or other practical experience can be used to demonstrate your interest and suitability. As your technical knowledge, competence and experience develop, you will take on increasing responsibility within the team.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Undertaking defined cybersecurity conformance tests on IoT and connected consumer products using SafeShark Test Suites, manual procedures and automated testing tools.

Testing consumer products and documenting results accurately for confidential reporting to manufacturers and authorised recipients.

Supporting security reviews and defined testing of IoT hardware, embedded software, web applications, web services and mobile applications against applicable regulatory cybersecurity requirements.

Handling and managing IoT devices throughout the testing process, including storage, location tracking, product records, returns or destruction and associated UKAS documentation.

Supporting the development and maintenance of SafeShark test suites and test tools, including supporting the resolution of Jira tickets under the direction of experienced engineers.

Supporting the Lead Engineer with the preparation and maintenance of UKAS documentation and test reports.

Working collaboratively with SafeShark, DTG Testing, customers and engineers from industry.

Contributing to continuous improvement by suggesting ways to improve the reliability, repeatability and quality of testing outcomes.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• A relevant technical degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Cybersecurity, Telecommunications or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant technical knowledge or experience.
• A demonstrable interest in cybersecurity, software, connected consumer products or technical testing, supported by relevant study, projects, placements or work experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in investigating technical problems.
• The ability to follow defined procedures, work accurately and complete assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
• Good attention to detail and the ability to complete technical documentation clearly and accurately.
• The ability to organise your work, use initiative appropriately and seek guidance or escalated matters when required.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and external contacts.
• The right to work in the UK.
• Experience in a customer-driven environment.
• Assessment experience against standards such as EN 303 645, the EN 18031-x series, NIST 8259 and NIST CSF.
• Experience or interest in IoT, consumer electronics, telecoms, media, software development, standards or certification.
• Experience of or familiarity with working in a laboratory, testing or other quality-controlled technical environment.

THE PACKAGE

Salary: £27,000-£30,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience

Hours: 35 paid hours per week, Monday to Friday (a one-hour unpaid lunch break is provided each working day and does not count towards working hours)

Location: SafeShark offices in Vauxhall, London. This is an office and laboratory-based role.
