Fire Safety Consultant

About the role This role would suit someone who can apply fire safety knowledge in practical project settings and engage confidently with clients, contractors and site teams. Construction-sector experience would be beneficial, particularly in live-site, refurbishment or contractor-led environments, although it is not essential where the right candidate demonstrates a strong technical foundation and a willingness to develop. You will be challenged by varied project work, supported by a collaborative team and given opportunities to develop your technical expertise, professional network and consultancy skills through training, CPD and practical experience. Key Responsibilities Undertake Fire Risk Assessments within the scope and complexity of your verified level of competence. Deliver assigned consultancy projects, taking responsibility for technical quality, client management, programme commitments and agreed deliverables. Support wider fire safety consultancy work, including site inspections, fire safety reviews, construction phase fire safety support, technical reporting and client advisory services. Identify fire hazards, assess risk and evaluate fire precautions, management arrangements and construction-stage controls. Prepare clear, proportionate reports and practical recommendations that support legal compliance, risk reduction and safe project delivery. Contribute to quality assurance, continual improvement, CPD and knowledge sharing across the business. Uphold professional integrity, impartiality and ethical behaviour at all times. What we are looking for Essential Level 4 or Level 5 fire safety or fire risk assessment qualification, or equivalent qualification, registration or demonstrable competence. Intermediate or Advanced level competence in line with BS 8674, or clear evidence of progression towards this level. Demonstrable fire safety consultancy or Fire Risk Assessment experience in premises appropriate to your level of competence. Good working knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, recognised guidance, relevant British Standards and good industry practice. Strong written report-writing skills, with the ability to produce clear findings, realistic recommendations and proportionate action plans. Confident verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical matters to both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining quality and meeting client expectations. Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, SharePoint and related collaboration tools, together with an openness to using appropriate digital and AI-enabled tools in accordance with company policies and client confidentiality requirements. Desirable Experience in construction, refurbishment, infrastructure or live-site environments. Professional membership or registration with a relevant body, such as the IFE, IFSM or a recognised fire risk assessor register. Experience supporting wider fire safety consultancy tasks beyond Fire Risk Assessments. Experience working on high-profile, complex or infrastructure projects. CSCS card, site safety training or construction-sector qualifications. Ability to travel independently to client and project sites across the UK, including remote locations and occasional out-of-hours/night working where required. A valid driving licence permitting you to drive in the UK is therefore required for some assignments, although public transport may be appropriate where reasonably practicable.
