Our Approach to Care. At Safe Places, we provide high-quality, child-centred care in small, nurturing homes, supporting no more than two young people at a time. This allows for meaningful relationships, individualised support, and consistent therapeutic care. You will play a vital role in supporting young people to build independence, understand their emotions and behaviours during difficult moments, and develop positive coping strategies. It is challenging work but deeply rewarding. Our aim is to help every young person make genuine progress, preparing them for successful transitions into family-based placements, reunification, group settings, or independent living. We recognise that behaviour is communication. Our practice focuses on responding, not reacting, with calmness, hope, care, respect, consistency, and understanding at the heart of everything we do. Collaboration is central to our model. You will work closely with professionals across health, therapy, education, and social care to support each young person’s holistic development. You will also have opportunities to coach and develop team members within your home, helping to build confident, compassionate, and skilled teams.

The Role: As Registered Manager, you will lead a high-performing children’s home where exceptional care, strong leadership, and regulatory excellence go hand in hand. This is a pivotal leadership role for an experienced professional passionate about delivering outstanding outcomes for young people while developing and inspiring others.

Deliver outstanding care and compliance:

  • Lead the delivery of high-quality care in full accordance with the Minimum Children’s Home Standards (NI) and the Children’s Home Regulations (NI) 2005.
  • Ensure full compliance with all organisational policies, procedures, statutory regulations, and best-practice standards.
  • Uphold the highest safeguarding and child protection standards, promoting a transparent, open, and accountable culture.

Drive quality, strategy, and continuous improvement:

  • Provide strategic leadership, identifying developments and improvements within the home.
  • Complete Schedule 5 notifications and maintain effective communication with the relevant regulator.
  • Champion quality assurance processes in partnership with the Quality and Systems Team, embedding best practice throughout the service.
  • Achieve and sustain positive RQIA inspection outcomes, working collaboratively with inspectors to continually enhance standards.

Inspire and develop your team:

  • Provide monthly formal supervision, ongoing informal support, and structured annual appraisals for all staff.
  • Deliver coaching and mentoring, supporting Professional Development Plans and ongoing competency assessments.
  • Create a culture where staff feel supported, motivated, accountable, and proud of the care they provide.

Ensure safe and effective daily operations:

  • Manage all resources effectively, including staffing, to optimise service delivery.
  • Identify and coordinate appropriate internal and external services to support best childcare practice and promote the emotional and physical wellbeing of young people and staff.
  • Oversee day-to-day operational management of the home and participate in the on-call rota for a minimum of four days per week.

Working Pattern & On-Call Commitment: To support both effective leadership and consistent care delivery, this role offers a balanced structure combining protected management time with hands-on practice:

  • 32 non-contact hours per week dedicated to Registered Manager duties, including leadership, compliance, quality assurance, and team development.
  • 6 shift hours per week to maintain a strong presence within the home and support the team and young people directly.
  • 0.5 sleepover per week, providing continuity of care and leadership when required.

Flexibility is essential in residential care, and shift work (including sleepovers) will be required in line with the needs of the service.
