- Overall Purpose of the Job
- Be the subject matter expert of one or more portfolios
- Influence the direction and shape of a portfolio, including both events and potential additional revenue streams
- Scale relevant portfolio(s) by 25% revenue year on year
- With the support of the Head of Production, take ownership in determining the commercial viability of conferences and strategies to scale existing products and launch new events within the portfolio(s)
- Have responsibility for driving the portfolio’s growth and future path
- Produce two‑day and three‑day Large Scale Events while strategizing on new commercially‑viable avenues for relevant portfolio growth
- Key Tasks
- Research, write & produce approximately 4‑6 business conferences per annum, including Large Scale Events (LSE)
- Produce each event to the highest quality possible, curating content for the relevant community, within 30 days (45 days for Focus Day LSEs, 60 days for streamed LSEs).
Work to the specifications outlined and adhere to the requirements of the production schedule, whilst using initiative to explore and validate new conference topics and themes.

- 2 Day Event: 35 + Chair total (presentations, panels, etc.)
- 3 Day Focus Day Event: 45 + Chair total (presentations, panels, etc.)
- 3 Day Focus Day & Parallel Streamed Event: 65 + Chair total (presentations, panels, etc.)
- Primary Market acquisition during production: At the outset, define the required number of primary market required to ensure the event is a success, and actively secure them as guests throughout production and in post‑production.
Specific targets and milestones to be agreed with the Head of Production.
- Continue primary market acquisition (VIPs and guest passes) to ensure the audience is delivered
- Champion the adoption of AI technologies across production functions to enhance efficiency, drive innovation, and support data‑driven decision‑making.
- Take ownership in the strategy of portfolio direction through identification and validation of both topic and commercial viability of launches and new events to develop and scale conference portfolios.
- LSE Growth
Plans: Post‑each LSE, conduct a debrief meeting with the team and put together the LSE Growth Plan document – working with other departments to gain their commitments to ensure the next iteration will grow.
Ensure this document is followed for the next iteration of the event.
- Take the lead in driving the conference campaign post‑production, through continuous and active interdepartmental collaboration and ensure conferences achieve and exceed revenue targets.
- Work with sponsors during the production cycle or at point‑of‑sale to curate agendas and audience delivery, and support in tailoring the sponsor presentation to the agenda.
- Take ownership of portfolios through strategic tracking of revenue and audience breakdown to identify when specific action may need to be taken to ensure successful event delivery.
- Identify and execute additional revenue streams for conference portfolios with the support of the Head of Production.
- Identify opportunities to expand the portfolio through new geographies, event formats, or spin‑off events.
- Build strong relationships with senior industry personnel to better develop an understanding of potential portfolio growth opportunities.
- Identify, negotiate and deliver primary market partners to support the portfolio growth – in terms of credibility, revenue, and primary market delivery.
- Act as a senior external representative for the portfolio, maintaining trusted relationships with military leadership, government bodies, international organisations, and defence primes.
- Identify and attend key trade shows/meetings/other events as needed to continue building personal brand and SMG reputation in the industry.
- Where necessary, mentor junior members of the production team – setting the gold standard and setting the example of a high achiever, high performer.
- Have strong visibility on the competitor landscape and ownership of competitor conference trackers.
- Support SMG’s goal of creating and engaging portfolio communities year‑round – by providing editorial contributions for the Hubs/Newsletters and other means.
- Related duties as required.
