A global luxury asset insurer is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer into a 3-person Cardiff team. The company is expanding and this is an exciting time for the business. This role is the DevOps lead role so you'll own the infrastructure and CI/CD function end to end. You're insuring some of the world's most valuable and interesting assets, for a client base that expects a premium experience to match.
The second draw is technical autonomy. The platform was originally built by a third-party agency, and while it works, the internal team had limited input into the architecture. They're not married to any of it. If you think a different deployment pattern, a different load balancer setup, or moving compute to ECS Express makes more sense, you make the case and you build it. It's a genuine open playground for someone with strong AWS DevOps experience and instincts.
The stack:
- Laravel PHP back end, Vue.js front end
- AWS: App Runner, ECS, S3, Lambda, EventBridge
- CI/CD via Bitbucket and GitHub, deploying containerised applications
- Member-facing dashboard (also used internally)
Two priorities for this hire:
- Scale. Members log in roughly every 11 weeks for a specific event, concentrating significant traffic into a short window. A proper load balancing and CloudFront strategy needs designing.
- International expansion. New markets bring latency, data protection and regional compliance considerations into the architecture.
Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain the AWS infrastructure
- Own the CI/CD pipelines
- Improve reliability, scalability and monitoring
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code best practice
- Knowledge transfer to the wider dev team
Experience needed:
- DevOps as your primary discipline
- Strong AWS and CI/CD background
- Full-stack awareness (Laravel/Vue useful but not essential)
- Confident articulating technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
