Sacro's mission is to deliver life‑changing services that empower people, give hope and protection, and help to build safe communities. The aim of the Sacro Edinburgh Travel Service is to facilitate the visiting of prisoners by their families and friends so that relationships can be maintained during a sentence. Sacro's Travel Service provides a regular transport service to many of Scotland's prisons and the State Hospital at Carstairs. The service is part of Sacro's Throughcare Service, enabling people in prison to maintain important contact with their families and friends which research has shown helps to reduce reoffending.

We pick up our registered passengers from their home address and take them to their arranged visit before returning them home again completely free of charge. Drivers should be friendly, non‑judgemental and respectful of confidentiality, assertive, punctual and organised. It is desirable for our volunteers to have experience of driving in the central belt, but this is not essential. Applicants must have their own car, full, clean driving licence and insurance. Vehicles must have a current MOT and be regularly serviced. Additionally, membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) would be required.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, we would ask you to be able to commit to volunteering for at least a year and be regularly available. Volunteering with Sacro provides the opportunity for skills and knowledge to be put into practice while giving back to the local community. All volunteers will receive comprehensive Sacro training. We welcome applications from individuals who share Sacro's aims and values and want to engage with those we support to help them move on to a more secure, settled and fulfilling life and value diversity from all sections of the community.
