Behavioural Science & Design Lead – Digital Health AI (contract)
2-4 days/week · Remote (UK hours)
Why this role matters
This is a rare opportunity to work at the forefront of behavioural AI in healthcare.
At Sacher AI, we don’t just build digital health tools — we help define how AI systems behave. From supporting weight loss maintenance to addressing emotional wellbeing, we design AI systems that are clinically and behaviourally aligned, and ensure they are evaluated for safety, trustworthiness and real-world effectiveness.
You’ll work directly with the CEO and co-founder of the Behavioural AI Institute, alongside a multidisciplinary team of experts in behavioural science, psychology, clinical care, and AI. Many of us hold PhDs and lead or contribute to research projects — including several in development with NIHR and SBIR funding pathways.
This role is ideal for someone excited to apply behavioural science and psychological expertise to real digital products, while also shaping new safety standards and structured design practices across emerging AI systems.
About Sacher AI
- Sacher AI applies structured behavioural and clinical expertise to design and evaluate emotionally intelligent, clinically aligned AI systems.
- We support digital health clients in building safe, personalised AI solutions that target motivation, lifestyle change, emotional wellbeing and patient engagement.
- We also develop internal tools and methods that define best practice for responsible AI development in healthcare.
Our flagship evaluation platform, PromptSafe™, simulates AI–human conversations using synthetic personas and custom behavioural criteria to test tone, safety, fidelity and accuracy before an AI assistant goes live.
It acts like a “wind tunnel” for AI dialogue, helping identify clinical risk, emotional misalignment, and behaviourally inappropriate outputs — long before a human ever interacts with the system. PromptSafe is used both internally and licensed to clients building AI assistants in sensitive health domains.
Sacher AI is a bootstrapped but highly credible company with deep roots in healthcare and behavioural science, co-founders of the not-for-profit Behavioural AI Institute, and recognised collaborators across clinical AI safety and behaviour change.
What you’ll do
- Lead behavioural input into AI-enabled digital health journeys (e.g. weight loss, adherence, motivation dips, emotional support)
- Plan and facilitate client discovery sessions and behavioural design workshops
- Translate psychological and clinical constructs (e.g. suicidality, anxiety, depression, emotion regulation) into structured knowledge formats such as ontologies or knowledge graphs
- Collaborate with internal and external product, clinical, content and AI engineering teams
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research, including conversation audits and interview-based insight gathering
- Contribute directly to the use and evolution of PromptSafe™, developing safety checks, persona-driven simulations and behavioural criteria aligned with relevant ontologies and frameworks.
- Help clients problem-solve real behavioural challenges in their digital health products
- Support evaluation, iteration and external communication of our work, where relevant
Must have experience
- Doctorate-level qualification in clinical or health psychology, or a closely related field with equivalent applied experience in behavioural health, digital intervention design and clinical risk.
- 2+ years of digital health experience, ideally in a product, clinical or research-facing team
- Delivered behavioural support (e.g. therapy, CBT, coaching, or similar)
- Proven ability to design digital behavioural interventions or journeys
- Comfortable leading client-facing workshops or behavioural discovery sessions
- Able to turn client goals into behavioural strategies with clear mechanisms
- Familiarity with tools like Figma, Canva, Miro
- Strong communication skills; native English speaker
- Available 2–4 days/week, during UK working hours
Nice to have
- Experience with structured knowledge systems (ontologies, graphs, taxonomies)
- Familiarity with AI or LLM-based tools in health or behaviour change
- Qualitative and/or quantitative research experience
- Comfortable contributing to research publications or evaluations
- Experience in early-stage teams, start-ups or consultancies
