Role Overview

We are looking for a PVIT / BEV Test Engineer to support vehicle testing activities across new Battery Electric Vehicle platforms. The role will focus on supporting the continuous operation of prototype vehicle test fleets by identifying, analysing, documenting and supporting the resolution of powertrain and charging system issues. The engineer will carry out first‑level analysis of issues raised by vehicle owners, collect diagnostic logs and quality data, define problems clearly and engage the correct engineering teams to drive issue resolution. The role requires strong technical understanding of BEV propulsion systems, high‑voltage components, charging systems and vehicle‑level testing. The position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands‑on vehicle testing, structured problem solving, stakeholder coordination and working in a fast‑paced prototype development environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prototype Vehicle Issue Triage: Lead the initial triage of powertrain and charging system issues identified on prototype vehicles.
  • First‑Level Diagnostic Analysis: Carry out first‑level analysis of vehicle issues through diagnostic log collection, data review and issue investigation.
  • Problem Definition and Data Capture: Ensure high‑quality data is collected with a clear and accurate problem description before issues are escalated.
  • Issue Logging and Tracking: Document issues clearly in the required systems, ensuring all relevant information, logs, test conditions, symptoms and observations are captured.
  • Powertrain and Charging System Support: Support issue resolution related to BEV propulsion systems, charging systems, high‑voltage components and associated software or control systems.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Engage the relevant engineering teams, software teams, test operations teams and vehicle engineering teams to support problem solving and resolution.
  • Vehicle Software Updates: Support vehicle updates, software flashing and verification activities to prove out issue fixes.
  • Fleet Running Support: Lead or support issue resolution activities to keep the prototype vehicle fleet operational and available for test programmes.
  • Root Cause and Corrective Action Support: Assist in identifying containment actions, interim corrective actions, permanent corrective actions and lessons learned as part of the issue‑resolution process.
  • Test Replication Support: Liaise with test teams to replicate vehicle‑level issues on test rigs, prototype vehicles, or other test environments.
  • Resolution Prove‑Out Support: Support testing and validation activities to confirm that implemented solutions resolve the reported issues.
  • Lessons Learned Capture: Capture lessons learned from issue investigations and ensure relevant updates are communicated and applied across the vehicle fleet where required.
  • Engineering Documentation: Validate, prepare, review and interpret engineering documents, test reports, diagnostic outputs and issue summaries.
  • Cross‑Functional Communication: Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely sharing of information.
  • Additional Engineering Support: Undertake any other engineering work or testing support activities as requested by the line manager in connection with the role.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Strong interest and eagerness to resolve vehicle‑level technical issues.
  • Good understanding of Battery Electric Vehicle propulsion system architecture and function.
  • Experience in testing high‑voltage components, systems, or vehicle‑level electrical systems.
  • Ability to collect, analyse and report test data using INCA or equivalent diagnostic/data analysis tools.
  • Hands‑on experience with vehicle diagnostics, log taking, issue investigation and test support.
  • Structured problem‑solving capability in a technical engineering environment.
  • Ability to validate, read and prepare engineering documentation.
  • Good understanding of prototype vehicle testing and development processes.
  • Ability to work with cross‑functional engineering teams to resolve issues.
  • Confidence to challenge existing processes and suggest improvements.
  • Degree qualification in engineering or equivalent practical experience preferred.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to travel between engineering sites, test locations and partner facilities, including possible overseas travel.
  • Experience working on BEV, hybrid, or electric powertrain programmes.
  • Knowledge of charging systems, battery packs, inverters, electric drive units, or high‑voltage systems.
  • Familiarity with software flashing, vehicle updates and issue prove‑out testing.
  • Experience working in prototype vehicle development environments.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage technical teams.
  • Experience in issue management, root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
