The Grounds Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining outdoor areas to a high standard, ensuring they are safe, tidy and visually well presented. This role involves working across parks, open spaces, commercial grounds, housing estates or public areas, carrying out a range of horticultural and grounds maintenance duties throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, pruning and weed control.
  • Plant, water and maintain flower beds, shrubs, trees and landscaped areas.
  • Clear leaves, litter, debris and other waste from outdoor spaces.
  • Use hand tools and powered machinery safely and effectively, including mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers and leaf blowers.
  • Undertake basic maintenance of pathways, fences, edging, signage and other outdoor features where required.
  • Perform seasonal duties such as gritting, snow clearance, turf care and site preparation.
  • Inspect outdoor areas for hazards or damage and report issues promptly.
  • Carry out routine checks and basic maintenance of tools, machinery and vehicles.
  • Follow work schedules, maintenance plans and supervisor instructions to meet service standards.
  • Comply with all health and safety procedures, including the safe use of chemicals and equipment where trained and authorised.
  • Provide a courteous and professional service when interacting with colleagues, clients or members of the public.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture or a similar outdoor role is desirable.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and carry out physical manual work.
