Based in Kingston upon Hull, our client is an innovative and growing design and manufacturing organisation with strong links to the construction industry. Due to continued expansion, they are now seeking a highly competent Accounts Assistant to join their finance team.
The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager and working as part of a small, dedicated accounts team, this is a varied and hands-on position. The role focuses primarily on sales ledger and general accounting responsibilities, with involvement in payroll as part of the wider finance function. This position offers genuine scope for development, providing exposure to a broad range of finance activities and the opportunity to progressively take on increased responsibility as experience grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and issue sales invoices in a timely manner
- Maintain and update customer records within the company system
- Manage credit control, including reporting to management and escalation where necessary
- Maintain daily cashbooks and produce debtor reports
- Manage petty cash and complete reconciliations
- Process employee expenses and reconcile company credit card accounts
- Assist with monthly stock takes and stock valuations
- Post journals and perform account reconciliations
- Reconcile monthly healthcare invoices
- Support preparation of statutory returns (e.g. P11Ds and ONS surveys)
- Prepare documentation for the annual audit, ensuring accurate referencing
- Provide cover for purchase ledger when required
- Support the wider finance function with ad hoc duties
Payroll Duties
- Process/Assist with weekly and monthly payrolls ensuring compliance with statutory regulations.
- Collate timesheet and absence data
- Assist with payroll-related statutory reporting where required
Candidate Profile
We are seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant with general accounting experience, ideally gained within a fast-paced construction or manufacturing environment. Exposure to payroll processes would be advantageous but is not essential. This role would suit someone looking to build on their existing experience and develop towards broader accounting responsibilities within a growing business.
Candidate Requirements
- AAT qualified or studying (or equivalent experience in general accounts)
- Previous experience in a similar finance role
- Working knowledge of payroll processes (desirable)
- Strong Excel and IT skills
- Commercial awareness and strong attention to detail
