Overview

CYP IAPT CBT Trainee/ CAMHS Registered Practitioner. This role is offered on a fixed term/secondment basis for 12 months.

Internal applicants who wish to be considered for a secondment should discuss with their line manager the suitability of a possible secondment. The post is part of the CYP-IAPT 12 month post-graduate diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy beginning January 2026. We are offering 2 CBT trainee contracts (AfC Band 6), in conjunction with Exeter University. While undertaking training you will attend teaching days at least twice a week (online and in person) with the University. The remaining 3 days will be used for supervision, study and therapeutic clinical work.

Once the fixed term contract ends, applicants would be encouraged to apply for any vacant posts within the service. As these are post-graduate courses you will need to evidence your ability to study at a post-graduate level.

As this is an NHSE funded course, eligibility considerations apply to those who have completed previous NHSE funded training courses (e.g. CWPs & EMHPs) and may require time post-completion.

Band 6, Fixed term, 12 months, Full-time. Salary: Β£38,682 to Β£46,580 per annum. Location: Acorn House, Horton Road, Gloucester GL1 3PX. Reference: 327-25-681.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist CAMHS assessment and treatment interventions for children & young people (0-18 yrs), including those with learning disabilities, presenting with emotional and mental health difficulties.
  • Undertake clinical responsibility for caseload, adhering to risk management and care planning processes in line with the Care Programme Approach (CPA), liaising with Trust and Gloucestershire multi-agency partners.
  • Provide CAMHS specialist clinical risk assessments (including Self Harm) and complex risk management plans as part of routine clinical work.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team with clearly defined roles; the job plan will be reviewed quarterly and may be adjusted.
  • Maintain high quality, accurate and contemporaneous clinical records in line with Trust policies.
  • Provide CAMHS consultation, training and advice to professionals across children\’s services within Gloucestershire.
  • Provide clinical supervision to junior staff as required and engage in CPD activities.
  • Demonstrate professional reasoning, knowledge and competencies across CAMHS interventions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high quality clinical services and ensure the voice of the child informs personalised care plans.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Significant clinical experience delivering evidence-based interventions within CAMHS or related services and/or adult mental health settings; for learning disability posts, experience with children and young people with complex needs.
  • Experience undertaking specialist Self Harm assessments of children and young people.
  • Experience in specialist care planning and care coordination (including complex risk assessment and management) within a mental health or learning disability setting.
  • Experience in CAMHS multi-agency collaborative working and joint care planning; capability to identify and manage safeguarding concerns.
  • Experience providing CAMHS-related training or consultation to partner agencies.
  • Experience delivering personalised care planning and profession-based interventions.
  • Ability to evidence post-graduate study and professional development.

Desirable

  • Post-graduate training within CAMHS or related field; profession-specific qualifications (e.g., LD, nurse prescriber, DBT, CBT, AMHP, family therapy, or systemic practice).
  • Clinical supervision qualification/training and/or accreditation.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision and support to partner agencies.
