Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its Young Minds Matter Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs). We seek an enthusiastic Senior Mental Health Practitioner (SMHP – band 6) to work in a community‑based post delivering early intervention services to children, young people, families and carer support in school settings.

Do you want to make a difference to the mental health of children and young people and shape early intervention services? Join our team of qualified CAMHS clinicians, education mental health practitioners (EMHP), partner agencies and school leads to enable earlier and more effective mental health support and increase resilience within school communities.

Main Duties:

  • Work in partnership with schools to conduct consultations, assessments and provide mental health interventions directly with children and young people; offer specialist consultation, signposting and advice to teaching staff and professional networks.
  • Provide support to other clinical colleagues and be responsible for effective care coordination, safeguarding and clinical risk management.
  • Consult with teachers, school staff and school mental health leads to identify emerging mental health needs as part of a whole‑school approach; support EMHPs in delivering parenting support, group work, psycho‑education and work with parents.

Key Qualifications:

  • Professional health or social care qualification (RNLD, RMHN, OT, MHSW) and current registration with a regulated body (NMC, HCPC).
  • Evidence of formal post‑registration learning.
  • Ability to travel within Gloucestershire – a valid UK driving licence and own transport required for business purposes.

Essential Experience:

  • Clinical experience delivering evidence‑based interventions in CAMHS or related services.
  • Experience in specialist care planning, case management and coordination, including complex clinical risk assessment.
  • Experience managing safeguarding concerns and escalating formal safeguarding issues.
  • Experience delivering personalised care planning for mental health or learning disability needs.

Desirable Experience:

  • Specialist self‑harm assessment of children and young people.
  • Multi‑agency collaborative work and joint care planning within CAMHS.
  • Providing CAMHS‑related consultation, training and advice to partner agencies and other practitioners.
  • Providing clinical supervision and collaboration with voluntary sector agencies.

Working Conditions:

  • Band 6 – £38,682 to £46,580 per annum.
  • Permanent, full‑time, County‑wide – Gloucestershire.
  • Salary is part of NHS Agenda for Change.
  • Working pattern: full‑time.
