The Role:

Following planned expansion, Saab UK is seeking a Field Support Representative to join the Programmes Team within Sensor Systems UK. The successful candidate will be trained to support the UK military’s in-service radar systems in Hampshire and Yorkshire and will deploy internationally in support of the growing Giraffe 1X (G1X) radar fleet. The role involves customer‑facing radar technical support across installation, maintenance, fault‑finding, training, and operational deployments of radar systems in demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planned and preventative maintenance of radar systems, including input to maintenance schedules.
  • On‑site technical support to UK military personnel operating in‑service radar systems.
  • Installation, integration, and verification of radar systems and associated subsystems.
  • Support to software loading, configuration, and interfaces with Command and Control systems.
  • Fault diagnosis and repair across electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, cooling, and power systems.
  • Support to trials, exercises, and operational deployments in the UK and overseas.
  • Training and mentoring end users in operation and basic maintenance of radar systems.
  • Support to other business areas including customer support desks, programme delivery, and OEM activities.
  • Reporting and administration related to projects, deployments, and training activities.

Qualifications and Skill:

Essential:

  • Background or interest in radar, electronic, or other complex technical systems.
  • Experience in a technical, customer‑facing role demonstrating fault‑finding in high‑pressure environments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including overseas deployment at short notice.
  • Medically and physically able to undertake deployment‑ready training.
  • Computer literate.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance to SC level.
  • UK or Swedish citizenship.

Desirable:

  • ONC/HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Multi‑skilled with an electrical or electronic bias.
  • Previous military experience.
  • Experience delivering technical or instructional training.
  • Experience of working on engines and/or motor vehicles, whether through previous employment or as a hobby.

As a National Security Vetting clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold National Security Vetting clearance to SC level or have the ability to gain it.
