Job Summary: Serve as a technical team leader to develop new mechanical technologies and packaging solutions related primarily to broadband fiber optic and RF communication devices. Provide technical mentoring to junior members of the Mechanical Engineering development staff.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct mechanical design and development of advanced packaging and enclosure solutions, serving as technical team lead, if necessary.
  • Participate on cross-functional product development teams, focusing on platform designs.
  • Develop electronic packaging solutions for new and existing product/component designs utilizing various fabrication processes.
  • Perform feasibility studies on new technology and product concepts.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed electronic design utilizing 2D and 3D modeling software.
  • Perform thermal analysis on new product designs utilizing physical and electronic simulation methods.
  • Create, revise, and maintain engineering documentation and reports for all project work in a format that is in accordance with standard engineering practices.
  • Work with supply chain management team to advise vendors/suppliers in the specification, evaluation, and qualification of components and vendor supplied sub-circuits and/or systems.
  • Serve, as required, as main technical point of contact to OEM / turnkey product vendors.
  • Generate required product development and engineering support documentation. Participate in the Engineering Change Order Process.
  • Perform other duties as required. Collaborate with development teams to create cost-effective mechanical parts and assemblies utilizing CAD software.

Required Skills:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. MS in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrate expertise utilizing 2D and 3D modeling software, including AutoCAD and Pro/E.
  • Knowledgeable in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge of mathematical analysis tools and software for thermal modeling, finite element analysis, etc.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of mechanical measurement devices, including those utilized for thermal profiling and testing, torque testing, etc.
  • Experience performing and specifying various forms of fabrication processes (milling, lathes, screw machines), die casting, plastic injection molding, stampings, sheet metal design and cold forming processes.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead a product development team from concept to product release.
  • Experience working in a cross functional, team based product development environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of IDF interface to ECAD tools.

Soft Skills:

  • Congenial with good interpersonal skills.
  • Determination to meet product schedules.
