We are seeking a highly capable Private Markets Fund Researcher with 10–15 years of experience across private equity, private credit, infrastructure, real assets, and broader Hedge Fund alternatives. The ideal candidate combines strong technical and analytical skill, thorough due-diligence capability, and excellent written communication having worked at a Private Markets Fund of Fund investment firm or private market consultancy and with some relevant experience analysing and assessing evergreen private markets funds.
This role serves as a bridge between the investment team and the technology team, helping shape and guide the development of internal research and portfolio-analytics platforms. Therefore, technical fluency and comfort working with technology teams is a meaningful advantage.
Key Responsibilities- Fund Research & Due Diligence: Lead comprehensive due diligence on private market funds across strategies (buyout, growth, venture, secondaries, private credit, infrastructure, real assets). Analyse and evaluate manager track records, attribution detail, fund economics, deal‑level performance, risk management processes, and organisational/operational robustness. Conduct reference calls, operational risk assessments, and deep dives into investment philosophy, team structure, and value‑creation methods. Form independent viewpoints, challenge assumptions, and highlight weaknesses or blind spots in manager presentations.
- Analytical & Technical Evaluation: Assess market cycles, pricing trends, dispersion, benchmark positioning, and the relative attractiveness of strategies within private markets. Leverage internal and external databases to extract, clean, analyse, and interpret complex datasets.
- Investment Writing & Reporting: Produce high‑quality investment memos, due‑diligence reports, comparison analyses, and investment‑committee papers. Clearly articulate investment theses, key risks, return drivers, and recommendations in well‑structured written materials. Translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership and investment committees. Detailed background and capabilities in all manner of Fund reporting including closed end funds, evergreen funds and hedge funds as well as Fund of Funds (external end investors reporting as well as Fund of Fund reporting and internal risk and analytics reporting); analytics and calculations of all key metrics.
- Technology Partnership & Platform Development: Work closely with internal technology and data teams to help shape the design and functionality of the firm’s research, analytics, and reporting platforms. Provide user‑level guidance to developers, ensuring tools reflect investment‑team workflows, data needs, and decision‑making processes. Contribute to the roadmap for research‑related technology initiatives (e.g., workflow systems, due‑diligence databases, performance dashboards).
- Market Intelligence & Sector Insights: Track fundraising cycles, strategy evolution, and organisational changes across the GP universe. Monitor thematic and structural developments in private markets (e.g., NAV lending, continuation funds, hybrid credit structures, secondaries market evolution). Bring forward differentiated insights that challenge consensus thinking and support higher‑quality decision‑making.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Interact confidently with GPs, advisors, third‑party vendors, and internal stakeholders. Lead and participate in manager meetings, on‑site diligence sessions, and cross‑team collaboration discussions. Present quantitative and qualitative findings to senior team members and investment committees.
10–15 years of experience in private markets research at a fund of funds allocator, other allocator roles, investment consulting, or GP side portfolio/strategy teams. Strong technical capabilities: fund analytics, performance decomposition, financial modelling, and understanding of private markets structures and fund economics. Demonstrated ability to conduct end to end investment due diligence with rigour and independence. Excellent written communication skills and ability to produce clear, persuasive investment reports. Experience collaborating with technology teams or involvement in building analytical tools/platforms is a significant plus. Proficiency with private markets data sources (e.g., Burgiss, Preqin, PitchBook, eVestment, CEPRES). Bachelor’s degree required; CFA/CAIA or relevant postgraduate study preferred.
