Job Description
Animal Technician β Cambridge
We are seeking a dedicated Animal Technician to join our clients' Cambridge-based team, with a strong focus on hands-on animal husbandry. This role is ideal for someone passionate about animal welfare, committed to maintaining high standards of care, hygiene, and compliance within a regulated scientific environment.

The Role
The Animal Technician will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of hands-on animal husbandry tasks within an animal facility. Duties include daily feeding, watering, cleaning, handling, and monitoring of animals, maintaining animal housing, barrier integrity, and site security, and completing routine environmental checks and accurate record keeping.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out daily animal husbandry duties including feeding, watering, cleaning, handling, and health observations
- Maintain high standards of animal welfare, hygiene, biosecurity, and barrier integrity in line with SOPs and Home Office requirements
- Monitor and record animal unit environmental conditions and complete accurate departmental documentation
- Support animal breeding activities, including re-housing, grouping, weaning, sexing, weighing, and stock selection
- Ensure correct identification, labelling, counting, and tracking of animals and cages
- Prepare, pack, and despatch animals in accordance with client, company, and Home Office guidelines
- Comply with all policies, procedures, and continuous professional development requirements
Skills & Experience
- Proven animal husbandry and handling experience
- Relevant qualifications including at least 5 GCSEs (AβC) with Maths and English
- Level 2 Diploma in Animal Management
- Strong IT and record-keeping skills, with proficiency in Excel, Word, and database or production software.
