Healthcare, Education, Residential, Industrial/Logistics and Refurbishment . About the Role
As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for managing tenders from initial opportunity appraisal through to settlement and handover. You will work closely with the pre-construction, commercial, design and construction teams, while maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors and material suppliers. The successful candidate will be commercially aware, highly organised and able to confidently manage their own tenders, ensuring accurate, competitive and commercially viable project pricing. Key Responsibilities
Carry out the initial appraisal of tender opportunities, ensuring all information is accurate, complete and suitable for pricing. Develop effective measurement and pricing strategies for each tender. Attend opportunity launch, mid-tender, settlement and handover meetings. Attend site visits alongside members of the pre-construction team. Prepare proposed supply chain enquiry schedules in conjunction with the commercial and construction teams. Communicate with key supply chain partners prior to issuing enquiries. Prepare and issue subcontractor and material supplier enquiries using
ConQuest Estimating software . Undertake internal take-offs and measurements using
Bluebeam / On-Sight
software. Produce internal Bills of Quantities (BOQs) using
ConQuest Estimating software . Build and maintain effective working relationships with local and national supply chain partners. Coordinate pricing in line with the design information provided and identify suitable alternative solutions where appropriate. Analyse subcontractor and material supplier quotations, ensuring compliance, competitiveness and value for money. Prepare detailed quotation comparisons and recommendations. Undertake fixed-price analysis and assess commercial risk. Prepare job pricing comparisons and supporting resources for tender settlement meetings. Complete project
CSA
requirements. Assist with the preparation of
Contractors' Proposals and PQQ submissions
as required. Ensure tenders are accurately priced, commercially robust and submitted within agreed timescales. Work collaboratively with estimating, commercial, construction and other internal departments throughout the tender process. Essential Requirements
Minimum
5 years' experience working at Estimator level within the construction industry . Strong understanding of construction methods, standard operating procedures and estimating practices. Proven ability to independently manage and run your own tenders. Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of cost, risk and profitability. Experience across a range of construction sectors, ideally including:
Care homes / healthcare Schools / education Industrial and logistics Residential Refurbishment
Experience using
ConQuest Estimating software . Experience with
Bluebeam and/or On-Sight
for take-offs and measurement. Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy. Strong communication, negotiation and analytical skills. Collaborative approach with colleagues across estimating, commercial, construction and pre-construction teams. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and clients. Excellent customer service and relationship management skills. Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel to sites when required. Desirable
Bachelor's degree in Construction or a related discipline. Relevant professional construction or estimating qualifications/membership. What We Offer
