About Us
The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.
The Role – Overview
Based at the NLB's Headquarters in Edinburgh, as Technical Systems Manager, you will provide users with the hardware, software, communications and secure environment to do their jobs. You will manage the ICT Helpdesk support team, have responsibility for ICT budgets for the rolling equipment replacement program, and capital projects. You will provide, maintain and manage the Microsoft Teams Telephony, CCTV system, building access system and LAN/ WAN networks and firewalls. You will also contribute to the ICT strategy by providing recommendations for future enhancements to NLB's infrastructure.
Salary And Benefits
- £59,576 per annum rising to £65,526 after 1 year in post.
- Annual Shift Working Payment of £4,468 rising to £4,914 after 1 year in post
- A Civil Service Pension with an average employer contribution of 28%
- Annual Leave allowance of 25 days, rising by 1 day per year of service up to 30 days

Qualifications/ Experience Required
- Degree in Computer Subject or 5 years' experience in senior technical role.
- Microsoft Certified Professional or 5 years' experience of Microsoft Azure
- Certified networking professional or 5 years' experience of managing WLAN/LAN infrastructures
- Knowledge of managing switches and firewalls
- Advanced project management skills across multiple disciplines
- Experience of ISO27001 and at least a years' experience of working procedures within a quality system
- Previous management experience of technical support team
- Advanced problem solving techniques
- A good understanding of networking standards
- Thorough understanding of licensing laws
