What You’ll Be Doing
- Assisting the Technical Lead with producing and developing complex designs and compartment layouts in line with specifications, quality and technical standards, and customer requirements.
- Performing detail‑design appraisals in assigned areas of the ship to ensure all design intent is maintained.
- Providing support to ongoing Installation, Set to Work and Trials and Acceptance activities.
- Investigating system obsolescence of ship installed parts.
- Developing and maintaining skills and capabilities to provide technical support and knowledge to other design disciplines as required, sharing good practice to continuously improve processes.
- Assisting with the production and maintenance of design artefacts to support Detail Designers, ensuring combat systems compartment layouts are viable and in line with design intent.
- Providing support to resolution of technical issues through Installation, Setting to Work and Trials activities.
- Applying Systems Engineering and Lifecycle Management Processes to ensure design viability.
Essential
- HNC/HND in an engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent, or demonstration of comparable, suitable experience.
- Understanding of System Engineering design lifecycle.
- Experience of system physical and functional integration during design, build, commissioning and acceptance periods in a highly regulated environment.
- Academic qualification in Engineering or related STEM subjects and recognition as an Incorporated or Chartered Engineer through a recognised professional institution. Preference for candidates already professionally registered.

- Experience of design/integration of engineering systems, preferably combat systems in a naval environment.

The Combat Systems Physical Integration Team
You’ll join the Type 26 Combat Systems Team, working across the full ship lifecycle and multiple platforms. The work spans Gunnery and Guided Weapons, Communications, Sensors (above and below water), Shared Infrastructure and Navigation. From early concept through to setting to work, commissioning, sea trials and final acceptance, the team is involved at every stage. Together, we play a key role in delivering the Royal Navy’s next‑generation Type 26 frigates.
