The predicted salary is between 13 - 16 £ per hour.
The role requires the driving of heavy goods vehicles for the purpose of collecting, delivering and tipping of bulk material. Where possible, drivers will be based at the depot closest to their home but may be required to work from other company depots as and when the need arises.
Key Responsibilities:
- To drive heavy goods vehicles on a daily basis
- To comply with all driver legal requirements
- To collect, deliver and tip a variety of material
- To operate wagon and trailer combinations including draw bar
- To carry out daily vehicle checks
- To complete vehicle checklists on a daily basis
- To ensure vehicles are maintained to a high standard
- To conduct basic vehicle maintenance tasks and clean the vehicles as and when required
- To comply with all vehicle operating systems
- To make written and/or verbal reports to line managers as required
- To carry out any additional duties that may be reasonably requested from time to time
- To comply with Company policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Manual and the post holders terms & particulars of employment
Key Competencies:
- The ability to drive safely and to maintain a safe working environment in line with company operating procedures and systems
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Able to understand signage and verbal directions primarily for reasons of Health & Safety
- The ability to work as part of a team and to communicate effectively with other team members
- The ability to work on own initiative as and when required
- The ability to identify any issues or problems with the vehicles
- The ability to report any issues or problems that may be encountered with vehicles
- To carry out daily vehicle checks
- To wear correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as instructed thereby ensuring minimum risk to personal health and safety
- Excellent time keeping and attendance
- A flexible approach including the willingness to work outside normal hours as and when required
Essential skills:
- A full clean HGV Class 2 driving license
- A good working knowledge of the Highway Code
- Excellent working knowledge of Tachograph rules & regulations
- Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
- Proven track record of working in a comparable role
- Proven ability of driving bulk tippers, operating hook lift on roll-on roll-off vehicles
- Capable of conducting basic maintenance including, but not exclusive to; greasing, oiling and fuelling
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant subject or comparable work experience
- Clean DBS check (transporter drivers only)
Desirable Skills:
- NVQ / ONC or equivalent qualifications in a relevant subject area
- GCSE Grade C or above in English & Maths
- Full geographical knowledge of the area the depot and/or Company serve
- Relative experience in metal recycling and other associated processes
