The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.
The role involves the loading and unloading of HGV vehicles, the loading/feeding of shredders, shears and balers and moving of materials into stockpiles. There is also a requirement to load ships as and when required. Depending on your experience and capability, you will be driving various heavy plant including 360 material handlers, wheel loaders etc as used within the metal recycling industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- To pick up and move a variety of material, sometimes in confined spaces
- To feed the shredder, shears and balers as directed and in line with business requirements
- To load and unload materials from heavy goods vehicles
- To load ships in a safe and orderly manner
- To work as an exemplar in guiding others through the protocols of ship loading
- To carry out daily machine start-up and shut-down procedures
- To carry out daily machine checks
- To complete machine checklists on a daily basis
- To ensure work is of a high standard
- To comply with all equipment operating systems
- To make written and/or verbal reports to line managers as required
- To carry out any additional duties that may be reasonably requested from time to time
- To comply with Company policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Manual and the post holders terms & particulars of employment
Key Competencies:
- The ability to work safely and to maintain a safe working environment in line with company operating procedures and systems
- The ability to communicate with ships staff to ensure ships are loaded/unloaded in accordance with Masters requirements
- The ability to organise and instruct staff to enable the loading/unloading of ships in accordance with company shipping checklists
- The ability to load deep sea vessels
- The ability to unload coastal vessels
- The ability to work as part of a team and to communicate effectively with other team members
- The ability to act as a role model and mentor to other team members
- The ability to work on own initiative as and when required
- The ability to identify changes in normal machine operating characteristics
- The ability to report any issues or problems that may be encountered with machinery or vehicles
- To carry out daily machine checks
- Wearing correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as instructed thereby ensuring minimum risk to personal health and safety
- Excellent time keeping and attendance
- A flexible approach including the willingness to work outside normal hours as and when required
Essential skills:
- Proven track record of working in a comparable role
- Proven ability of driving heavy mobile plant
- Proven ability to load ships and other vessels from the dockside (training can be given if already experienced in mobile plant)
- Capable of conducting basic maintenance including, but not exclusive to; greasing, oiling and fueling
- A full clean driving license
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant subject or comparable work experience
Desirable Skills:
- NVQ/ONC or equivalent qualifications in a relevant subject area
- GCSE Grade C or above in English & Maths
- Relative experience in metal recycling and other associated processes
- Able to interpret seagoing vessels markings and therefore be able to estimate amounts loaded during ship loading
