Job

As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will deliver engaging and effective Functional Skills English and/or Maths sessions to learners from a variety of backgrounds within adult education, employability, and vocational training programmes. You will support learners to develop essential skills, achieve qualifications, and progress towards employment, apprenticeships, or further learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality Functional Skills English and Maths training
  • Plan engaging lessons tailored to individual learner needs and ability levels
  • Support learners working towards Functional Skills qualifications
  • Monitor learner progress and provide structured feedback and coaching
  • Maintain accurate learner records and compliance documentation
  • Support learner retention, achievement, and progression outcomes
  • Adapt delivery methods to engage learners with varying learning needs
  • Ensure delivery aligns with Ofsted standards and quality frameworks
  • Promote learner confidence, employability skills, and personal development

Ideal Candidate

You will be a passionate and learner-focused tutor with experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths within the Further Education, Employability and Skills sector. You will have:

  • Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths
  • A recognised teaching qualification such as AET, PTLLS, CET, DTLLS, or equivalent
  • Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
  • Experience supporting learners from diverse backgrounds and ability levels
  • Ability to motivate and inspire adult learners
  • Good organisational, administrative, and IT skills
  • Understanding of learner progress tracking and quality assurance processes

Desirable

  • Experience within FE Colleges, Training Providers, Apprenticeships, or Employability programmes
  • Knowledge of AEB-funded (Adult Education Budget) provision and governing bodies requirements
  • Experience supporting learners with additional learning needs or barriers to education
