The Role

As a Business Development Manager, you will play a key role in identifying, securing, and developing new opportunities across the West Midlands. You’ll be responsible for building strategic partnerships and driving growth across a range of programmes, including Restart, Welfare to Work (W2W), employability initiatives, and apprenticeships.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing a regional business development strategy
  • Identifying and securing new contracts and funding opportunities
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, commissioners, and employers
  • Leading on bids, tenders, and proposals
  • Working closely with internal teams to ensure successful programme delivery and growth
  • Keeping ahead of market trends and policy changes within the employability and skills sector

This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys both strategic thinking and operational delivery.

Ideal Candidate

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a strong track record in business development within the employability or skills sector. You’ll be a well-rounded professional who can confidently manage the full BD lifecycle.

You will have:

  • Proven experience working with Restart programmes, W2W, employability, and/or apprenticeships
  • A strong understanding of the UK skills and employability landscape
  • Demonstrable success in winning new business and securing contracts
  • Experience developing partnerships across public and private sectors
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive, self-starting attitude with the ability to work autonomously
