Location: Remote
Reporting to the Director of IDP and InnerSource, the SENIOR PLATFORM ENGINEER will work on a mix of backend services and frontend interfaces, directly impacting developer productivity and satisfaction through our Internal Developer Platform (IDP). The successful candidate will work closely across multiple teams, domains, and platforms, with a passion for enhancing developer experiences.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of backend services (Node.js, TypeScript) and frontend components (React, TypeScript) for our Internal Developer Platform (IDP) (Backstage).
- Lead with a platform mindset the construction and continuous improvement of core components and patterns which elevate developer experience.
- Work closely with teams to identify areas of friction and lead the design and implementation of plugins and templates which provide effective solutions to meaningfully improve.
- Build robust, well-tested, and maintainable code in a collaborative agile environment.
- Build and maintain integrations with various third-party tools, APIs, and internal systems.
- Mentor team members to bring them up to speed on backend and frontend best practices.
What will you need to succeed?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related area.
- Proven backend proficiency: Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript in a production environment.
- Proven frontend proficiency building modern, responsive UIs with React and TypeScript.
- A platform mindset which includes a passion for creating tools and abstractions which make developers more productive.
- Building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling (e.g. Jenkins, Ansible).
- Firm understanding of cloud providers (e.g. Amazon Web Services (AWS)).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills which enable effective work in a remote environment.
Nice to have qualifications:
- Backstage.io experience: History of direct hands-on experience contributing, customizing, or building plugins for Backstage.io is a significant advantage.
- Platform Engineering: Previous experience working on an internal developer platform and DevOps tooling.
