Job Description:

We are seeking an Intermediate GCP Cloud Engineer with experience in Terraform and Kubernetes to join a modern application platform engineering team working with a major banking client.

Location: Toronto – Remote

Contract Duration: 6 Months (with a good chance of extension)

Our large banking client is modernizing development practices and tools, focusing on cloud transformation and platform technology to support development and operations. The goal is to streamline processes, enabling development teams to focus on building business logic. We aim to assemble a team of influencers, makers, creators, and industry leaders to drive this transformation.

The Senior Cloud Engineer will operate within the Modern App Platform Engineering team, responsible for creating platform components and services for enterprise use.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, manage, and maintain cloud platforms, services, and components to enable enterprise-wide use of cloud functionalities.
• Provide technical ownership and leadership for enterprise cloud products or complex parts of larger products, including design, development, and operational processes.
• Design, implement, and refactor code.
• Participate in design discussions focusing on scalability, best practices, and implementation.
• Ensure software and applications meet high availability, integrity, and reliability standards.
• Collaborate with lead engineers and architects on solution design, scoping, and estimating tasks.
• Engage in planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups.
• Build and operate highly available and scalable software and infrastructure.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of relevant experience
• Experience with Kubernetes, containerized applications, and Terraform
• Enthusiasm for cloud transformation and platform development
• Proven experience with Google GCP and Microsoft Azure
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle and related technologies
• Domain expertise in cloud platform features and capabilities
• Ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems involving multiple engineers
• Experience in modern technology stacks, platform building, or legacy systems
• Technical leadership experience in small teams delivering production solutions
• Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, especially with technical audiences
• Experience delivering enterprise systems and collaborating across teams
• Knowledge of software design patterns, infrastructure architecture, DevOps, and security
• Awareness of scalable enterprise software design (code and infrastructure)
• Experience with relational databases
• Understanding of software release processes, CI/CD, and environment management
• Attention to detail and high standards for quality
• Willingness to learn and grow
• Passion for team performance and quality craftsmanship
• Experience investigating and resolving system issues
• Experience in Canadian financial institutions is a plus

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor\’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or mathematics
