About the Role We are looking for an experienced and practical Health & Safety Manager to join a construction company based in the Wolverhampton area This is an important role within the business, working closely with the Directors, Project Managers, Site Managers, subcontractors and wider site teams to ensure they maintain high standards of health and safety across all our projects. We are looking for someone who understands that good health and safety in construction is about more than paperwork. You will be a visible and approachable presence on site, working with their teams to identify risks, find practical solutions and make sure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day. Key Responsibilities Site Health & Safety Regularly visit and inspect our construction sites. Carry out health and safety inspections, audits and site walks. Identify hazards and unsafe working practices and work with site teams to put things right. Provide practical advice and support to Site Managers and Project Managers. Ensure appropriate health and safety arrangements are in place before and during works. Monitor housekeeping, access, welfare, PPE and general site standards. Follow up actions from inspections and ensure they are completed. Be confident in stopping or escalating unsafe work where necessary. RAMS & Risk Management Review and assist with the preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS). Ensure RAMS are practical, understandable and suitable for the work being carried out. Work with Site Managers and subcontractors to make sure RAMS are actually being followed on site. Review RAMS when site conditions or working methods change. Identify potential risks before work starts and help teams put suitable controls in place. Accidents, Incidents & Near Misses Record and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses. Identify the underlying causes and recommend sensible corrective actions. Ensure appropriate reporting is completed. Follow up actions and ensure lessons are communicated to the relevant teams. Encourage site teams to report near misses and potential hazards rather than simply reacting when something goes wrong. Training & Toolbox Talks Help identify health and safety training requirements across the business. Keep training and competency records up to date. Organise relevant training and refresher courses. Support site inductions. Deliver or assist with toolbox talks and safety briefings. Help ensure employees and subcontractors understand the risks associated with their work. Compliance & Documentation Keep the company's health and safety policies and procedures up to date. Ensure the business meets its legal and contractual health and safety responsibilities. Support compliance with CDM Regulations and relevant construction legislation. Maintain health and safety records and documentation. Assist with client, contractor and accreditation requirements. Support external audits and inspections. Keep up to date with changes to legislation and industry guidance. We are looking for someone who is practical, approachable and proactive, with the confidence to operate effectively within a busy construction environment. You will ideally be someone who: * Has previous health and safety experience within the construction industry. * Is comfortable spending a significant amount of time visiting construction sites. * Has a good understanding of construction health and safety legislation. * Understands RAMS, risk assessments, site inspections and incident investigation. * Can communicate effectively with everyone from site operatives and subcontractors to Directors and clients. * Is confident challenging poor or unsafe practices. * Is organised and able to keep on top of paperwork and follow-up actions. * Can work independently and manage their own diary and site visits. Qualifications & Experience Essential: Experience working in health and safety within the construction industry. Good understanding of UK construction health and safety requirements. Experience carrying out site inspections and audits. Experience reviewing RAMS and risk assessments. Good understanding of accident and incident investigation. Strong communication and organisational skills. Desirable: NEBOSH General Certificate. NEBOSH Construction Certificate. IOSH membership or equivalent. Relevant construction/site safety qualifications. Experience with construction health and safety software/document management systems.
