We are currently recruiting for a Document Controller for a social housing contract in the Wolverhampton area - ideally from a Tier 1 or large contractor background with good knowledge of the Building Safety Act.

Job Purpose: To manage and maintain project documentation to ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act regulations. The role is critical in ensuring that all records, certifications, and communications are accurate, accessible, and up to date to meet safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the receipt, distribution, and tracking of project documentation (e.g., drawings, reports, certification and inspection records).
  • Ensure documentation is systematically stored and accessible in accordance with the Building Safety Act requirements.
  • Maintain version control to ensure the latest revisions are always in circulation.
  • Uploading documentation to the Contract Delivery Platform (currently BIM360).
  • Regularly review project documentation to confirm compliance with the Building Safety Act and associated regulations.
  • Maintain the Golden Thread of information, ensuring all safety-critical data is accurate and traceable.
  • Assist in preparing compliance audits by ensuring the availability and completeness of all required documentation.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and complete training if required.
  • Liaise with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and external consultants to ensure smooth document flow.
  • Respond to document requests promptly and efficiently, supporting project stakeholders in accessing critical information.
  • Ensure effective communication of project-related information through document transmittals and tracking systems.
  • Identify and implement improvements in document management processes to enhance efficiency and compliance.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a Document Controller role within the construction, building or related industry.
  • Understanding of document control processes and compliance requirements within construction projects.
  • Knowledge of the Building Safety Act and associated regulations, or willingness to undertake training.
  • Proficient in using document management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • NVQ, OCR, ILM, C&G in a Business Administration field would be advantageous.

Desirable:

  • Experience using BIM360 or equivalent common data environment including SharePoint.
  • Experience working on large-scale residential, commercial & construction projects.
  • Understanding of the “Golden Thread” requirements and digital record management within building safety compliance.
  • Experience working within a site-based project environment.

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000. A mixture of site, office and home working.
