An established residential developer in the Lichfield area is seeking an experienced Buyer to join its growing commercial team. This is a key appointment supporting procurement activity across multiple developments, ensuring best value is achieved while maintaining quality, programme delivery and strong supplier partnerships.
The successful candidate will work closely with site, technical and commercial teams to deliver procurement strategies that support business growth and long-term objectives.
The Role
- Champion cost efficiency and best-practice procurement across the organisation
- Follow structured commercial procedures to maintain strong control of spend
- Contribute throughout the end-to-end procurement process
- Support decisions around specification, materials and product choice
- Issue enquiries for supply chain packages and subcontract services
- Assist with tender reviews, comparisons and commercial recommendations
- Negotiate pricing and contractual terms when required
- Work with the commercial team to prepare development budgets for approvals
- Produce quantity take-offs for tendering and programming purposes
- Place and manage scheduled material orders across several live sites
- Oversee day-to-day ordering and resolve supplier invoice queries
- Attend site meetings and visits to ensure procurement supports build progress
- Monitor hired plant usage and reporting
- Carry out specification compliance checks before and during contract stages
- Regularly benchmark pricing and identify new supply opportunities
- Review drawings and highlight potential risks or amendments
- Develop and maintain a strong, reliable supplier network
About You
- Previous experience in residential housebuilding procurement
- The ability to build credibility with colleagues and external partners
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- Experience supporting budgets and providing commercial commentary
- A sound understanding of buying and procurement procedures
- COINS system knowledge (advantageous)
- A full UK driving licence
