An excellent opportunity for an ambitious Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join an established and growing specialist contractor delivering high-quality retail, commercial, hospitality and leisure interior fit-out projects across the UK. This is an ideal opportunity for someone in the early stages of their commercial career who wants to build genuine hands-on experience across estimating, surveying and commercial management rather than being restricted to one small part of the process.

We are particularly interested in speaking with Quantity Surveying graduates, Assistant QSs, Trainee Estimators or commercially minded individuals who already have some construction or fit-out experience and are looking for the next step.

The Role

Working alongside an experienced commercial and operational team, you will support projects from initial enquiry and tender through to delivery and final account. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing measurements and take-offs from drawings
  • Assisting with the preparation of tenders and quotations
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender information
  • Obtaining and comparing subcontractor and supplier quotations
  • Assisting with cost plans and project budgets
  • Supporting procurement of subcontract packages and materials
  • Commercial administration throughout live projects
  • Monitoring costs and assisting with valuations and variations
  • Maintaining accurate commercial and project records
  • Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and the wider project team
  • Using Excel to produce and maintain commercial information
  • Supporting the commercial team through to project completion

The role offers excellent exposure to the full commercial lifecycle of fast-moving interior fit-out projects.

About You

You do not necessarily need years of experience. More important is having the right commercial mindset, strong numerical ability and a willingness to learn. Ideally you will have:

  • A degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a construction-related discipline
  • Some previous experience within construction, refurbishment or interior fit-out
  • The ability to read and understand construction drawings
  • Good numerical and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • A proactive approach and willingness to learn

Previous experience within retail, shopfitting, commercial interiors, joinery or fast-track fit-out would be advantageous but isn’t essential.

Why Apply?

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend the next two years simply updating spreadsheets. You’ll be working closely with experienced people and gaining exposure to estimating, procurement, surveying, project costs and the commercial delivery of real projects. For someone who is commercially minded and wants to develop their career within the interior fit-out sector, there is plenty of scope to grow with the business.
