S Guest Consultancy Services are currently recruiting for an Assistant Buyer / Buyer on behalf of a well-established and growing residential developer operating across the West Midlands. Due to a period of sustained growth and an increasing number of live developments, our client is seeking an organised and commercially aware procurement professional to join their team on a fixed-term basis, supporting the delivery of multiple residential housing developments.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in materials procurement, plant hire and supply chain management who enjoys working closely with site teams and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and on programme.
The Role
Working as part of an established commercial and procurement team, you will be responsible for managing the procurement of materials and plant hire requirements across four active housing developments throughout the West Midlands. The role will be predominantly office-based in South Staffordshire, with weekly site visits to maintain strong relationships with site teams, monitor requirements and ensure procurement activities remain aligned with project programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement of construction materials across multiple residential developments
- Sourcing and negotiating with suppliers to achieve best value
- Managing plant hire requirements across live sites
- Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships
- Obtaining quotations and preparing purchase orders
- Monitoring material schedules and delivery programmes
- Liaising closely with Site Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Contracts Managers
- Managing supplier performance and resolving supply chain issues
- Supporting cost control initiatives and procurement reporting
- Attending weekly site visits across the West Midlands region
Requirements
- Previous experience as an Assistant Buyer, Buyer or Procurement Coordinator within construction
- Experience procuring construction materials and/or plant hire
- Residential housebuilding experience would be highly advantageous
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Excellent organisational and communication abilities
- Commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office systems
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Full UK Driving Licence
