We are looking for a Senior Instrument Technician to join a skilled Engineering team based at the Head Office in Knowsley with regular travel to customer sites across the UK. This role involves supporting both site and workshop operations while taking a lead role on projects, ensuring instrumentation systems are accurate, reliable, and compliant with safety standards. A Full UK Driving Licence is essential.

This position would ideally suit an experienced Senior Instrument Technician; however, applications are also welcomed from Instrument Technicians with substantial industry and site experience who are looking to take the next step in their career. The successful candidate will be expected to lead jobs on site, engage with customers, provide real time updates, manage project documentation, and act as a technical point of contact when required.

You will work closely with Engineers and technical staff to perform calibration, maintenance, commissioning, and fault finding on instrumentation systems. This hands-on role can be physically demanding and offers a varied workload between site visits and workshop activities, providing exposure to a wide range of systems and equipment.

Salary: Up to £34,500 - 46,000 per annum (dependent on experience), plus overnight allowances, overtime opportunities, fuel card, and accommodation fully paid for and arranged by the company.

Hours: 38 hours per week; Monday–Thursday 07:50–16:20, Friday 07:50–14:20. Site work may include overtime and overnight stays.

As a Senior Instrument Technician, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out calibration, maintenance, and functional testing of instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analytical systems.
  • Performing calibration activities both in the workshop and on customer sites using test equipment, including Beamex MC5 / MC6.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving instrumentation faults both on site and in the workshop.
  • Supporting the installation, commissioning, and configuration of new instruments.
  • Leading site activities and taking ownership of jobs from planning through to completion.
  • Completing and managing all associated job documentation, calibration certificates, reports, and site paperwork.
  • Conducting risk assessments and ensuring all work complies with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Assisting with system reliability improvements and ongoing technical projects.
  • Collaborating with Engineers, customers, and technical teams to support operational activities.
  • Acting as the lead representative on site, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Senior Instrument Technician Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as an Instrument Technician within an industrial environment, with strong site-based experience.
  • Apprenticeship or relevant technical qualification (HNC/HND, NVQ, or equivalent) in Instrumentation or a related Engineering discipline.
  • CompEx Ex01-04 qualification held, or candidates must be ready to undertake the qualification immediately upon joining the company. Full training, support, and funding will be provided.
  • Must have experience in calibration, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation systems including pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analytical equipment.
  • Proven ability to lead work on site, taking ownership of jobs, engage directly with customers on site, providing clear updates.
  • Experience carrying out calibration activities both in workshop and on customer sites using industry standard test equipment, including Beamex MC5 / MC6 is essential.
  • Confident in real time problem solving and fault finding while working on live sites and operational systems.
  • Ability to complete job documentation, reports and associated paperwork accurately and to a high standard.
  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential.
  • Good understanding of safe industrial working practices and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Must be comfortable working away from home and travelling to customer sites across the UK on a regular basis.
  • Strong communication, organisational skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
