S&D Trade Recruitment is supporting our client based in Croydon in their search for an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer. This role presents a fantastic opportunity to work alongside senior engineers, offering support and contributing to the delivery of high-quality mechanical design solutions for a range of projects. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years\’ experience in mechanical systems design, with a strong background in consultancy environments or contract design. You\’ll work on projects from start to finish, ensuring compliance and excellence in every aspect. Projects will include Education, Residential (New Build & Refurbishment), Commercial Buildings, Decarbonisation Initiatives, and Condition & Acquisition Surveys.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm with an hour for lunch.
Salary: £35,000 – £50,000 depending on experience.
Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the mechanical design and provide engineering support to the project team across a variety of projects.
- Collaborate with senior engineers in producing mechanical services designs that meet client requirements and company standards.
- Develop specifications, drawings, schedules, and cost estimates for mechanical systems.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant Building Regulations, including Renewable Technologies, IES Thermal Modelling, SAPs, SBEM Calculations, EPCs, BREEAM, GLA London Plan, and Passivhaus Standards.
- Conduct site surveys and assist with feasibility studies and condition reports across multiple UK locations.
- Communicate with clients and attend meetings to address project requirements and ensure expectations are met.
- Assist with the production of design calculations and tender documentation.
- Support in monitoring project financials, assisting with budget costing for mechanical services.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including CIBSE Guides, CDM Regulations, British Standards, and Energy & Sustainability Legislation.
- Maintain mechanical standards and best practices, ensuring designs meet company quality benchmarks.
- Use AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Hevacomp, IES VE, and Microsoft Project to develop and implement mechanical designs.
- Conduct quality inspections on projects and report any deviations from design standards.
- Support Senior Engineers with mentoring junior staff and contributing to team development.
Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer Required Experience and Skills:
- HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design within a consultancy environment or contractor design capacity.
- Solid knowledge of current Building Regulations / GLA London Plan / Renewable technologies / Thermal Modelling / SAPs/ SBEM Calculations/ EPC\’s / BREEAM / Passivhaus Standards / CIBSE TM59 / Overheating strategies and calculations competence in producing detailed reports, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Basic proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Hevacomp, and IES VE.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Project).
- A full UK driving licence is required.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior engineers and clients.
