The role We're hiring a Junior Underwriter to join our risk team and play a hands-on role in how we assess, onboard, and manage partners across the Ryft platform. This role sits at the intersection of risk, compliance, and commercial. You'll conduct due diligence on prospective partners, assess merchant risk profiles, and work closely with our commercial team to ensure every new partner is set up correctly from day one. What you'll do: Underwriting & risk assessment Conduct risk assessments on prospective partners, reviewing business models, KYC documentation, credit risk, and potential AML, reputational, or fraud risk exposure Assess merchant category codes, transaction volumes, and business activity to determine risk appetite and appropriate onboarding terms Support ongoing portfolio monitoring, identifying changes in partner risk profiles and escalating where necessary Work hand in hand with the commercial team from the point a partner agrees to join the platform, ensuring a smooth handover and consistent experience Stakeholder collaboration & process improvement Build strong relationships with internal teams including commercial, compliance, and operations, as well as external partners Contribute to the improvement of underwriting procedures, documentation standards, and onboarding workflows Maintain clear, audit-ready records of underwriting decisions and partner due diligence What we're looking for: Essential Strong analytical and investigative skills comfortable reviewing documentation, identifying inconsistencies, and forming a view on risk Excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage relationships across internal teams and external partners Highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple onboarding cases and queries simultaneously Exposure to merchant risk, platform onboarding, or underwriting ideally in a PSP or acquiring context Sound judgement and a proactive mindset able to flag issues early and escalate where needed Nice to have Experience in payments, fintech, or a regulated financial services environment Familiarity with KYC, AML, or CDD processes
