About the Role

We’re looking for a Carbon Assurance Consultant to join our team with a focus on data accuracy, quality control, and audit readiness. This role is critical to ensuring the credibility of our carbon accounting work across multiple client projects.

You’ll be responsible for validating emissions data, reviewing GHG inventories, and preparing documentation for ESG disclosures, ensuring our outputs are audit-ready and aligned with best practices. You’ll collaborate closely with our Sustainability Director and consulting team to apply rigorous QA processes, strengthen governance practices, and contribute to disclosure readiness.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in data/math/assurance who is motivated to build expertise in carbon compliance and sustainability reporting.

Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Strong understanding of the GHG Protocol framework, including Scopes 1, 2, and 3.
  • At least 2 years of direct experience calculating or assuring GHG inventories across a range of emission sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform QA reviews on carbon datasets, verify emission factor applications, and identify discrepancies in complex Scope 3 calculations.
  • Comfort working within spreadsheets and emissions modeling tools to cross-check formulas, track assumptions, and ensure methodological consistency.
  • Experience preparing documentation for ESG disclosures such as CDP, SBTi, or EcoVadis, with attention to formatting and completeness.
  • 2+ total years of experience in carbon accounting, sustainability consulting, or environmental data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, accounting, data analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience reviewing supplier-reported Scope 3 data and normalizing datasets.
  • Experience with assurance processes (e.g., ISO verification or third-party audits).
  • Experience preparing for or completing ESG-related third-party assurance or audits.
  • Knowledge of ESG frameworks such as GRI, SASB, or ISSB.

To be successful in this role, you should be

  • Exceptionally detail-oriented and methodical, with a strong focus on data accuracy and documentation.
  • Self-directed and able to manage your workload across multiple projects without sacrificing quality.
  • Passionate about advancing high-integrity carbon reporting and enabling climate action through better data.
  • Curious and collaborative—willing to ask questions, document findings, and continuously improve internal QA processes.
  • Professional and reliable in internal and client communications, with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through.

Role Specifics

  • Full-time, salaried position
  • Remote-first, with occasional in-person meetings or team activities
  • Salary range: $70,000–$80,000 base per year, depending on experience
  • Company-provided laptop and essential software/tools
  • Monthly stipend to assist with personal wellness or home office expenses
  • Must be based in the United States and able to work without sponsorship
  • Full professional proficiency or native/bilingual proficiency in English
  • Join a mission-driven startup with opportunities to grow as the company expands.

Carbon Assurance & Delivery

  • Independently validate Scopes 1 and 2 calculations, and contribute to Scope 3 verification processes within the first quarter.

  • Prepare complete, well-formatted documentation packages to support ESG reporting requirements (CDP, SBTi, EcoVadis, etc.).
  • Develop clear, auditable trails for emissions factors, assumptions, and methodologies across all client deliverables.
  • Track assurance progress and documentation in HubSpot, ensuring team visibility.
