Rydon Maintenance are seeking a skilled Maintenance Operative (Carpenter) to join our repairs and maintenance team. The role will primarily involve carrying out fire door inspections and repairs in hospitals, ambulance stations, care homes and other commercial buildings in the South East. Full training will be provided.
Job Purpose
We are seeking a Maintenance Operative to complete inspections, maintenance and repair of fire doors. The role will involve travelling to a number of healthcare and public buildings on various contracts we have with the NHS in the South East. You will be provided with a company van and fuel card for travel, so a UK driving licence is required. Training will also be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection of fire doors to assess whether repairs or replacements are required.
- Fire door maintenance and remedial works including fitting of door stoppers.
- Familiarity with current fire regulations to ensure doors are fully compliant.
- Conducting inspections and ensuring fire doors are compliant with fire safety regulations.
- Adjusting door frames, ironmongery, and seals for a proper fit and function.
- Identifying and rectifying any fire door defects.
- Installation of new fire doors and frames – the successful candidate will receive necessary training for installation.
- Ensuring all work meets industry regulations and safety standards.

Experience Required
- NVQ Level 2 qualification in Carpentry and Joinery
- Previous experience with maintenance, repair and replacement/installation of fire doors
- Experience working in healthcare environments such as hospitals, care homes (not essential, other sectors considered)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team environment
- Excellent customer service skills
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Valid UK driving licence (no more than 6 points)
