Conflicts Attorney
Location: London Reports To: Director of Conflicts Services (Global); UK COLP & MLRO
About the Role
The Conflicts Attorney will play a key role in identifying, reviewing, and resolving conflicts of interest related to new business intake and lateral legal hires across the firm’s global offices. This position also involves drafting and maintaining conflict waivers, reviewing Outside Counsel Guidelines, and advising on compliance with professional conduct rules in both the UK and US.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and clear conflicts of interest for new clients, matters, and incoming legal personnel.
- Collaborate with the Director of Conflicts Services and General Counsel’s Office to resolve complex conflict issues.
- Draft and manage conflict waivers and related documentation.
- Review and advise on client Outside Counsel Guidelines to ensure firm compliance.
- Assist with the implementation of ethical walls and related protocols.
- Support the training of new conflicts team members on relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Engage with lawyers and business services professionals across global offices to ensure timely and accurate conflict resolution.
Qualifications & Experience
- JD or equivalent legal qualification; admission to a state bar or current English practising certificate required.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in conflicts analysis and resolution within a major law firm or financial institution.
- Strong knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations and the Model Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Proven ability to manage complex conflict scenarios, particularly in transactional and lateral hiring contexts.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with ethical wall implementation and client guideline review is a plus.
