This is a full-time post covering maternity leave in our English Department from September 2026 to June/July 2027. The role is suited to an experienced practitioner who can contribute effectively to a highly successful department in a busy school.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teaching from Year 7 to Upper Sixth.
  • Experience teaching GCSE English Language and Literature and A Level English Literature is required.
  • Preferably, experience teaching IB English Language & Literature (SL & HL).
  • The department has an outstanding track record of excellent results in public examinations.
  • Post holders will be creative and innovative, expected to provide effective support and challenge for the full ability range.
  • They will work with the rest of the team to collaborate on departmental initiatives and moderation of pupils’ work.
  • Successful candidates will contribute to the wider profile of English through involvement with clubs, revision classes, clinics and trips.
  • Pupils enjoy co-curricular opportunities including debating, public speaking, poetry and book clubs.
  • The department also runs trips with older year groups to support examination classes.

  • The English Department consists of a well-resourced fiction library, six classrooms equipped with smart screens and a seminar room for Sixth Form lessons.
  • English is popular at A Level and in the IB, where it is offered in both the Diploma and Careers-related pathways.
  • The Department currently follows the Edexcel International (IGCSE) specification at GCSE and AQA at A Level.
