Prestwick Aircraft Maintenance (PAM) is a subsidiary of Ryanair that provides base maintenance services exclusively to the Ryanair Airline group and operates across Europe. The group currently flies a fleet of more than 610 modern Boeing 737‑800 and 737‑8000 aircraft and is expanding its maintenance operations. PAM is looking for a Safety Engineer to work at the Prestwick maintenance site in Scotland, reporting directly to the Group Safety Manager for the safety function under EASA/UK CAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Manage the safety and information security reporting scheme and the occurrence reporting system.
- Perform and follow up on actions related to occurrence investigations.
- Coordinate and act on airworthiness occurrences, information‑security incidents, and identified vulnerabilities.
- Support communication with regulatory authorities on safety matters.
- Provide information and suggestions for improvement to the Safety Manager and Deputy Safety Manager.
- Facilitate hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk management within PAM or external forums.
- Monitor implementation of risk‑mitigation actions as outlined in the safety action plan.
- Gather and develop safety information for Safety Review Board and other safety meetings.
- Develop and present safety information in Safety Actions Group meetings.
- Conduct safety training, ensuring that training meets acceptable standards.
- Provide advice on safety matters to the Safety Manager or his/her Deputy.
- Develop recurrent training programmes based on security incident or issue findings.
- Ensure mandatory occurrences are reported to the applicable Authority reporting systems.
- Record safety performance indicators (SPI) and targets (SPT) and indicate triggers when reached.
- Ensure Safety MACRO plan items are performed and closed in a timely manner.
- Liaise with Compliance Monitoring and Technical Standards functions to support safety objectives.
- Assist in hazard identification and risk assessment activities within PAM.
- Investigate occurrence reports in line with “Just Culture”, ensuring confidentiality.
- Attend safety department meetings and prepare reports for the Safety Manager.
- Ensure accurate recording of hours worked in the safety department recording system.
- Prepare safety data for site‑specific meetings.
- Develop material for safety communication channels such as HMTV, CT, monthly newsletters, etc.
Qualifications
- Relevant engineering or technical degree, or an aircraft technician or other maintenance engineering related qualification.
- Practical experience and expertise in applying aviation safety standards and safe operating practices.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of EASA and UKCAA regulations (preferred).
- Knowledge of industry Safety Management System requirements (preferred).
- Training in root‑cause analysis methodologies, including planning, conducting, and reporting (preferred).
- Confident and effective interpersonal communication skills when dealing with engineering staff.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Highly self‑motivated and proactive, willing to take initiative.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility.
- Flexible approach to work to match operational requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new systems.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and techniques.
- Valid passport with unrestricted right to travel in the UK/European Union and a valid driver’s licence.
- Very good command of written and spoken English.
- Preferably a security clearance to enter aviation security areas.
- At least 15 % travel around the Ryanair group companies on demand.
