Description
Prestwick Aircraft Maintenance (PAM) is a subsidiary of Ryanair that provides base maintenance services exclusively to the Ryanair Airline group across Europe. PAM employs a Safety Engineer at its Prestwick site in Scotland who reports directly to the PAM Safety Manager and is responsible for ensuring compliance with EASA/UK CAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Manage the safety and information security reporting scheme, including the occurrence reporting system.
- Perform investigation follow‑up actions and coordinate airworthiness occurrences, information security incidents, and identified vulnerabilities.
- Support communication with authorities on safety issues and provide safety improvement suggestions to the Safety Manager.
- Facilitate hazard identification, risk assessments, and management within the PAM group and external forums.
- Monitor implementation of risk mitigation actions listed in the safety action plan.
- Gather and develop safety information for Safety Review Boards, Safety Actions Group meetings, and other safety‑related meetings.
- Conduct safety training, ensure training meets acceptable standards, and provide recurrent training programmes from security incidents.
- Report mandatory occurrences to applicable authority reporting systems.
- Record and analyse Safety Performance Indicators (SPI) and Safety Performance Targets (SPT).
- Ensure safety macro‑plan items are performed and closed on time.
- Interface with Compliance Monitoring and Technical Standards functions to support organizational safety objectives.
- Investigate occurrence reports in line with “Just Culture” and ensure confidentiality.
- Attend safety department meetings, prepare reports for the Safety Manager, and record hours in the department system.
- Prepare safety data for site‑specific meetings.
- Develop material for safety communication channels such as HMTV, CT, monthly newsletters, etc.
Qualifications
- Relevant engineering or technical degree, or aircraft technician or other maintenance engineering related qualification.
- Practical experience applying aviation safety standards and safe operating practices.
- Basic knowledge of EASA and UKCAA regulations (preferred).
- Knowledge of industry Safety Management System requirements (preferred).
- Knowledge of root‑cause analysis methodologies, including planning, conducting and reporting.
- Confident and effective interpersonal communication skills with engineering staff.
- Excellent communication skills, highly self‑motivated and proactive, with willingness to take initiative.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility.
- Flexible work approach to match operational requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable learning new systems.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement tools/techniques.
- Valid passport with unrestricted right to travel in the UK/European Union and a valid driver’s licence.
- Very good command of written and spoken English.
- Preferably a security clearance to enter aviation security areas.
- Position includes at least 15% travel across Ryanair group companies on demand.
