The Principal, Private Client Tax, is a senior leadership role responsible for driving exceptional client service, practice growth, technical excellence, and talent development within Ryan's Private Client Tax practice. The role serves as a trusted advisor to high‑net‑worth clients, providing strategic tax planning, wealth preservation, succession, and compliance solutions. It also enhances Ryan’s market presence, expands client relationships, develops future leaders, and contributes to the firm’s growth and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote Ryan’s values, support employee engagement and retention initiatives, and provide coaching and career development opportunities aligned with individual and team goals.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion across the team and broader organization.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to high‑net‑worth clients, leading complex tax planning and advisory engagements involving individual income tax, trusts, estates, gifts, wealth transfer, succession planning, and fiduciary taxation.
  • Advise clients on tax‑efficient wealth preservation strategies, business succession, estate planning, charitable giving, and family governance structures.
  • Manage and strengthen executive‑level client relationships, ensuring exceptional service delivery, client satisfaction, and long‑term retention.
  • Provide strategic guidance on multi‑jurisdictional and international private client tax matters, where applicable.
  • Identify emerging client needs and proactively develop solutions that deliver measurable value.
  • Drive revenue growth through business development, cross‑selling, client expansion, and market‑facing leadership.
  • Ensure the delivery of high‑quality client work, effective risk management, and compliance with professional standards.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and tax policy developments affecting private clients and communicate impacts proactively.
  • Contribute to thought‑leadership initiatives through publications, speaking engagements, professional organizations, and market visibility activities.
  • Support strategic planning, operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives across the practice.

Qualifications

  • ACA, CTA, or equivalent professional qualification required.
  • Extensive experience in UK tax, ideally gained in a family office, Big Four or leading advisory firm.
  • Proven track record of managing complex tax engagements and leading client relationships.
  • Experience in team leadership and business development.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK tax legislation and HMRC practices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinking and commercial acumen.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with international tax and cross‑border transactions.
