The Manager, VAT Consulting works with Ryan’s VAT Consulting team to deliver timely, accurate and practical international VAT advice and assistance to both external and internal clients. Managers serve a portfolio of clients and supervise work delegated to junior colleagues to ensure that it is delivered on time and in line with clients’ expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day needs of a portfolio of clients.
- Provide VAT technical advice and assistance to clients, including advice on more complex issues.
- Delegate work to junior colleagues in the team, providing guidance, training, and mentoring to ensure high productivity and work quality.
- Review the work of junior colleagues to ensure that it is technically correct and that it meets Ryan’s standards in terms of language and format.
- Organise workloads and prioritise issues within the team to ensure that advice is provided on a timely basis and in line with clients’ expectations.
- Actively participate in calls and meetings with both prospective and existing clients.
- Maintain close relationships with existing clients to maximize potential for additional work.
- Liaise with third parties, including tax authorities and suppliers (local partners).
- Review news articles prepared by junior colleagues to ensure that they are factually correct.
- Write longer, more in-depth articles, to be published on the company’s website or in external journals etc.
- Participate in the preparation and delivery of marketing initiatives such as webinars and speaking engagements.
- Review changes to legislation and administrative practice to identify the impact that these may have on our clients and our business.
- Solicit regular feedback from client contacts.
- Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times, including by junior members of the team.
- Prepare/review client and local partner fee quotes and make appropriate recommendations to senior management.
- Manage the billing process to ensure that clients are invoiced on a timely basis and recommend billing decisions in line with company policies.
- Prepare/review responses to billing queries from clients.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree / Master’s degree in Law, Management or Economics.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written). Other languages will also be valued in the recruitment process.
- Professional experience of at least 5 years in a VAT advisory role, preferably with an international/cross-border focus.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.
Certificates and Licenses:
No specific certificate or license.
Work Environment:
- Standard indoor office environment.
- Long periods of sitting while working at computer.
- Occasional long periods of standing.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull up to 30 lbs.
- Position requires regular interaction with employees, clients and vendors, both in person and via email and telephone.
- Independent travel requirement: 5 – 10%
