Job Summary

The Pharmacy Assistant supports the Pharmacist in dispensing medications, managing inventory, handling billing, and ensuring smooth daily operations of the pharmacy. This role involves assisting customers, maintaining stock levels, ensuring proper storage of medicines, and performing administrative tasks. The Pharmacy Assistant plays a key role in providing quality service while upholding pharmacy regulations and patient confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist the Pharmacist in dispensing medications as per prescriptions.
  2. Ensure accurate packing, labeling, and billing of medicines.
  3. Guide customers on general medication usage, dosage, and storage as per the Pharmacist’s instructions.
  4. Assist in handling over-the-counter (OTC) medicine sales.
  5. Direct customer queries to the Pharmacist when required.
  6. Assist in or arrange for home delivery of medicines as and when required.
  7. Inventory & Stock Management
  8. Monitor stock levels and report low inventory to the Pharmacist.
  9. Assist in arranging stock and placing medicine indents in the system.
  10. Conduct routine stock checks and help with expiry tracking.
  11. Return short-expiry medicines to stockists as per guidelines.
  12. Organize shelves and storage areas for easy access and compliance.
  13. Storage & Quality Assurance
  14. Ensure medicines, including vaccines, are stored under appropriate conditions.
  15. Assist in checking for compliance with storage guidelines.
  16. Help maintain records of expired, damaged, or recalled drugs and ensure proper disposal.
  17. Compliance & Documentation
  18. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and pharmacy regulations.
  19. Maintain records of sales, stocks, and medicine transactions.
  20. Ensure adherence to prescription validation and ethical dispensing practices.
  21. Safeguard patient confidentiality and follow professional ethics.
  22. Coordination & Communication
  23. Coordinate with other departments for internal medicine requests.
  24. Assist in communicating with doctors regarding medicine availability.
  25. Support customers by arranging unavailable medicines through follow-ups.
  26. Handle customer billing transactions at the pharmacy counter.
  27. Maintain daily sales records and assist in cash handling.
  28. Support the Pharmacist in preparing reports and documentation as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: 10+2 or Diploma in Pharmacy preferred.

Experience: 1-2 years in a pharmacy setting preferred but not mandatory.

Strong communication skills in English and Kannada; knowledge of Hindi or other South Indian languages is a plus.

Basic knowledge of medicines and pharmacy operations.

Attention to detail for accurate dispensing and stock management.

Customer service skills with a polite and helpful attitude.

Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment.

Basic computer skills for billing and inventory management.

Time management and organizational skills.
